Overview

Synopsis

Aspiring writer, Daniyal (Dany) Nasr is engaged to the volatile and lovesick Nadia. But he's fallen for a fellow teaching student, Layla. After Dany bails from the marriage, Nadia commits suicide.

As Dany pulls his life together, he discovers a dark secret about Nadia through his friendship with her 14-year old sister, Aida. Nadia's father, Khalid, was sexually abusing her.

Seeking redemption for causing Nadia's suicide, Dany vows to save Aida from the same fate as her sister. But Khalid has no intention to let his daughter go free.

Hunted down by Khalid and brought to a shocking confrontation, Dany uses the shame he brought on his family as the weapon to save Aida from hers.

I liked the depth of the scene with the father and the daughter, some of the shots too, (ex: iron fence) but the voiceover made it corny in a way.... Decent voice though but not for this film. Seemed like an intriguing complex plot, but I didn't like all the voiceover commentary.

Definitely the elements and potential for a really strong story. The trailer itself felt a bit cheesy at times - I'm not sure if the voiceover from a narrator was the most effective way to get your story through. I did however really enjoy the writer's voiceover! Very effective but simple way to convey his character.

This is a concept that is far beyond most of the spoon fed other trailers that I have had a tough time watching all the way through. The writer has a diverse story of a young man, his greed, love, passion and an eerie father that has ripped his family apart. I want to know more! The trailer is clear, concise and well shot. I am happy to see a good concept with a strong story and a professional look thanks to a great director and cast. Bring it on!!!!!!!!

It was okay I suppose, but I did not like the racial comment. The story seems to have potential, but I am confused as to how being/aspiring to become an author has any relevance in this story. Overall, reminds me a bit of a csi or law and order SVU episode.

One of the stand outs I've seen here. Intense and gripping, it manages to convey a dreamy and sinister quality under a very cool surface. Loved the look and the acting is sharp as broken glass. A trailer that leaves you wanting more instead of showing all its cards.

Rule #1 Directors should not be actors. I understand it's in an attempt to save money on the production, but when you lack the acting ability to convey the sinister depths the character is willing to go to, I say find someone else.

Rule #2 Try to focus on a single theme within your trailer. Showing Dany's fantasy followed by the dysfunctional relationship and then following it up by alluding to rape coupled with the narration makes it a tough pill to swallow.

You maybe an award winning filmmaker, but directing a trailer is not your forte. Step back from the project and see what you can do to help tell the story in a clearer fashion, otherwise this will just be time and money wasted.

I really don't see what the big deal is here... The trailer moves too slow and doesn't communicate the synopsis. I had no idea that Dany is trying to save the girl's sister, and frankly I didn't really care about any of the characters. Also, why does it matter that he's a writer? The narrator makes this feel a little self-important. It's a start, but definitely needs some work.

Great concept. Beautifully shot. A powerful story. I like that the villain is someone so close. In the real world, bad people are not busting down the door with guns everyday. This looks like the kind of film we want to see coming out of Toronto; it is a good, solid dram/thriller that draws on the cultural complexity that is the hallmark of our city. Yet it doesn't pander or "explain," it seems to just let the story unfold naturally. Judging from the trailer, it appears to be conceived in a way that is commiserate with its budget so it does not look forced or under-resourced. There is a grittiness to the photography that works well with the story being told and clearly, there are some very talented actors involved. I want to see more!
