Perhaps you should learn to read between the lines... Try the semiology of it. Look at the background and the elements in the shots in concordance with the purposely shitty quality. There is an in between the lines message here! Especially in the first part.

The awkwardness is merely a complement to the cavernous sound and the sinking ship on the wall. Also serves to accentuate the sketchy feeling you may also get by simple lack of good lighting, color balance and the grainy picture.
