Overview

Synopsis

Set across a post-nuclear landscape, a new society has been formed to work towards a better future. Outside this society rests a colony of settlers which the future left behind. Unable to join with the rest of civilization, the Colony scrounges off what is left of the surrounding desolate land. When a treaty that protects their land is broken between the two societies, the Colony is left defenseless with only its people to make a stand. A group of young men find the courage to lead a movement to save their land and the people in it, but are changed in the process. Their numerous failures shake their spirit as one of the young men's betrayal surfaces as their enemy knows their every move.

Terrific trailer! I worry that the title makes the audience want to see, well... an uprising movie, but that the synopsis guarantees only a movie about in-fighting? I hope this movie realizes its "big payoff" potential.

Although the trailer was done well it simply doesn't do it for me. Not sure if it's the bow and arrows vs helicoptors or perhaps the lack of substance and weak diaolgue. These types of movies are usually groaners for me and do about the same thing that the main character did after his father passed away. Nothing.

The sound mixing and shots looked good. I didn't find the performances very engaging though and the trailer didn't touch at all on the element of your story in the write-up that sees them turning on each other. As a result, I don't get a sense of the tension in this film.

Always an interesting idea, which is perhaps why its so overdone. Nothing especially new seems to be brought to the idea of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Fortunately, it appears to be a well-done movie, with interesting filming.

This is not edgy or original or treading on new ground in anyway. VideoCopilot.net Tutorials + Recycled lame ideas from Hunger games(Which is already a rip off of the quality Japanese film "Battle Royal") + Arrow = Definitely not a worthy feature length for Theatrical Release. Maybe youtube video? Immerse yourself in all sorts of cinema and find a individual voice. I would never pay to watch this.

I'm rewriting a few of the reviews I've made at the beginning on the competition.
Let's start off by talking about the story. The story of uprising is very unique and it doesn't seem to cling to any genre niche. Specifically what I find intriguing the story isn't about the revolution it is how it changes the characters. Essentially making the revolution the antagonist. I don't understand how people think this is a hunger games rip-off when it clearly shows how these young men aren't forced to fight, it is very clear that they choose to fight for their rights.

The Setting:
The setting I felt was a little extreme how the large rich city could be almost right beside a tiny poverty stricken wasted colony. That is an extreme however realistic in today's society. It leaves me with a lot of questions. but that is left for the narrative to solve. You can't show everything in the trailer.

Cinematography and VFX:
I'm very impressed with the cinematography. The camera work fits very nicely in with the setting. The editing was timed well and not jumpy it felt like very smooth transitions. My biggest concern is the city in the background of the environment. The way it looks on posters is great. On camera it could be tuned a bit. I'm not sure if it was built using flat imagery or a cinema 4D stile dynamic 3D render. I'm definitely sure that the VFX will go to an art house after and I can understand that you do not have the budget or time to work on it as your three man team is busy promoting.

Other than those things to single out I believe this project is perfect for this competition and your missions every week go above and beyond every time. Gaining at this moment in time four fan picks. truly amazing. 10/10

For your age this is an amazing film! You have done a lot with the relative little world experience you have gained. However for this very reason I doubt your chances of winning this competition. Its not that the idea is bad its because at the current moment in time its been done. In your later missions you have mentioned that its not like other films however I can not imagine this being any different than TV shows like Arrow. The costumes, props and locations you have chosen are amazing, even the use of compositing is impressive for your age, but its very difficult to lose the stigma of “your work is impressive for your age”.

My New Review of Uprising:

An action-pack science-fiction thriller where our society may lead to in the near future if a nuclear event ever should happen.

Uprising begins after a nuclear war has taken place, breaking apart civilization as we know it.

Small colonies rely on the newly formed Arcadia but things begin to break down between the two societies.

A small group begin Uprising to defend their movement and in turn fight for survival.

In the future any new change comes with resistance, bloodshed and death.

The main characters look promising, bringing to the screen their perspective approach along with a close-up personal attachment.

I like when it becomes up close and personal. In the end, we all can relate to our own human qualities, weakness and sacrifices. It drives us to change ourselves and the world we live in.

Uprising is a Brave beginning to mankind's dark future of a new Revolution, hence Uprising.

In Conclusion I can see Uprising lead into a trilogy in our near future taking advantage of the strong flowing story-line.
Good luck guys into the Top 5 :)

Trailer was great, I really liked how the music led the viewer through. The shot selection for the most part was really good and fit well. I'd like to get a better feel for the "bad guys", since I thought they were not developed much as to why they were this "evil regime" I think this could be a good film. And local boys too! Go E-town!

So I am guessing you guys like the Mitsubishi logo, the hero in the TV show 'Arrow', the soldiers in 'Equilibrium' and no movies with real plot since you guys have none.

Keep at it but also strive for something more original...

Okay, I like this. This project has some potential. These kids (18 you say?) obviously have talent.

Uprising is the quest myth, or what Blake Snyder (who wrote Save the Cat: the last book on screenwriting you'll ever read) categorized as The Golden Fleece type of movie (Back to the future, star wars, etc).

As Snyder said "A hero goes on the road in search of one thing and winds up discovering something else--himself." So in this genre the group goes on a quest or mission, but the mission becomes secondary to the more personal discoveries made along the way, which is hinted at in the synopsis for Uprising. Okay, I'm still loving it.

I like the title "Uprising" but the log line "Change the World" leaves me flat. It doesn't tell me enough about what the movie's about, i.e. it didn't hook me. Can you expand it? Make it intriguing, include an element of irony. If my buddies ask "Hey what's playing this weekend" and I say "A new Sci-Fi thriller: Uprising" and they ask "what's it about?" and I say "Change the world" well…
What I would like to say is "A group of young rebels set out to change the world only to discover the world has changed them…" or something

The whole colony separation from society has a similar feel to the movie Impostor (2001), which I loved (especially the unexpected twist at the end) and the setting for this movie "surrounding desolate land" has huge potential to show the divide between the haves and the have-nots, especially since the Synopsis hints at the settlers inability "to join with the rest of civilization."

You guys have done a great job with the look-and-feel of Uprising and I can imagine this film appealing to teen/young adult movie goers provided you can introduce a romantic interest for the main hero and a few more female characters to broaden it's appeal as a "date movie." (i.e both the gals and guys will love going to see it).

Good luck! You've done a great job with the missions so far.

The music and editing in the trailer alone is incredible! It actually gave me goosebumps. To make something like this at such a young age, with such a limited budget is an accomplishment in itself. Good luck to you guys! :)
To all the people questioning whether $1 million is enough to make this film work: look at what they've done with their $250 budget; imagine all they can do with one million.

Excellent feel to the cold-colour images. Great use of lighting. Poignant close ups of emotional faces. Intriguing clips from the movie that make you feel you need to see more. Love the cgi sci fi city in the distance. Love the heavy use of black and white, colour drained images to portray the futuristic, apocalyptic feel to the movie... they visually portray the feeling of hopelessness portrayed by the characters' dialogue snippets. I like the way the images come fast and furiously toward the end of the trailer, increasing the suspense at the precise moment when we realize, as viewers, that the characters are moving beyond helplessness and taking action. Awesome!!!!!

Think this is going to be very cool to watch! I like the "Mad Max" post apocalyptic genre mixed in with "Equilibrium" distopian future ambiance.

The characters seem to be really awesome to get familiar with.
In the trailer we see how there is going to be a very important personal decision to take for each and everyone of them.
They have to face themselves personally and take the personal responsibility of making a life changing choice of being part
of an Uprising that will bring forward a powerful sign of a New Hope Rising for humanity.

Like all good sci-fi, the themes/ideas are topical and reflective of our contemporary culture. That being said, I'd like to see something a little more subversive...the freedom fighter against an authoritarian state has been done to death, why not mix it up a bit? Show what happens *after* the authority is overthrown, challenge notions that what would follow would be a great and prosperous future.

Also, while I appreciate the scope, a lot of the effects are sub-par. I know it's just a demo, but I'd like to see something that fits the budget they had at hand. Acting is also so-so, although there are a few nice shots.

i like the post apocalyptica world, but thought the VFX were too forced and a bit too ambitious for a $1M budget. Also, with the current series "Arrow" airing on tv this feels a bit of a rip-off from that.

Giving this a six because I love trailer ESPECIALLY the music and pace.
Not sure there's anything new or brave in the premise though.
And the hero is a little TOO "Arrow"/Assassins Creed knock off for my liking.

Looks very cool. The action seems quite static, but good design, some decent performances. I'd be interested to see how it could be developed further.
I honestly took a point off the rating because there's a "d" missing in the word "Produced" at the end of the trailer. Dude! If you're going to put something out there to look professional, for the love of god, double-check your spelling. Especially if there's only another 4 (5 including "2014") words in the entire trailer before this page.

A well done trailer that really showed the potential of the project. The trailer however did divulge a little too much into the "filler scenes" of the story and made it seem like it was going to be a long winded movie and slow paced where there should be more action, more punch to your trailer. Set up this bigger picture going on in the background of this story the main characters are occupying, then BOOM show us the rebellion. We can't root for David with out first seeing Goliath. If that makes anysense. That way you can show off your amazing FX skills and make it flashy. It just doesn't feel all that sci-fi right now. Right now it feels like its a small almost islolated incident when the dialogue used suggest otherwise. I wanna see Goliath.

A thriller is at its core is a "cat and mouse" story or a "race against time", either way somebody has something major to loose or gain and will stop at nothing to get it. And while freedom and oppression are pretty big things to loose they can also be a crutch to a great story, because we automatically side with the oppressed causing this auto-pilot viewing of the movie. We as an audience don't need to go deeper down the rabbit hole, we know how it ends. Now you can play on this, because your audience will get ahead of you in the story. We've seen this story in many different settings but ultimately they all have the same beats. So let us misdirect ourselves and you'll have a great thriller.

I'm usually pretty down for an action film, but this one needs a bit of a polish. Compositing could use work (presumably some of that million would go to a proper FX house). Especially that shot of the soldiers lined up. It just felt super fake. The story is ok as an archetypical action film, but besides there being soldiers who did bad things, I wanted to know more about what the government was actually up to that made them evil and totalitarian. Are they committing genocide? Is it a Hunger Games style thing with the outer regions living in poverty while the upper class flourishes (see also: Metropolis)? Also for a trailer with so many guns in it, there's only one gun shot (off camera). You guys have promise, I think you just need a bit more spit and polish on the story idea to make it something original.

There is a main character and yet I feel as if there is no protagonist/antagonist conflict both societies are struggling for their own reasons you just chose to follow the vigilantes (who are green arrow) to give it almost a Robin Hood feel. In conclusion I think the story, the costume, everything needs work or be redone.

This is the second of the movies that I really want to see get made. It's excellent. Good use of CGI. The plot sounds like it could be fun. I'm impressed.

Was an intriguing trailer. Needs some work on describing the backstory. Also, just thought it was weird that there was not one female in the movie.

Watched the trailer and read the posts about hater votes so honestly I am voting fairly. This is really what I think. First of all the score is great, love the music, I felt the characters aren't that believable and the story reminded me of the hunger games third book. Words like colonies, and uprising and the whole story line felt to similar to it only with a male lead instead of female, even the last image of the lead standing on a hill looked. Another shoot them up kill them movie that is a bit of a copy off of something that we are all waiting to see already on the big screen. Sorry guys the trailer was well done but not something I would watch for those reasons.

Fantatic! Too bad Arrow stole your costumes. Who wears black on white snow? Loved the trailer, but feel this could be an excellent concept destroyed by talented people who failed to recognise the little details that prevent them from achieving great results.

Definitely great looking. I am a sucker for anything post-apocalyptic or dystopian so I am interested. Everything looked great. If I had to nitpick, my only visual concern is I don't really like the mask on the main character, but that's probably personal preference.

I appreciate an underdog story, especially one about a group of oppressed people; however, narratives which occur in a post-apocalyptic world and involve a group of people revolting against a higher power have been overdone. The video game world and film worlds have exhausted this story (Fallout 3, Terminator, etc), and there doesn't seem to be a provocative twist to take it out of the realm of the pedestrian.

Cinematography was good for the most part (the soldier line up was obviously the same guy recorded in multiple positions and the rotoscoped, was pretty a ugly angle), color grading should not have been warm/orange for snow and vibe of the trailer, effects were bad, story might pan out, hero costume may or may not work, looks a little... Like a low budget super hero.
