Jared Leto would be excellent, he was brilliant in Mr. Nobody; Another great one would be Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Summer Glau or Morena Baccarain would do well if you decide to go for a female for the role.

Clutch W. Posted 5 months ago
Wait - no you have to cast against type and actually just use Adam Sandler.
Clutch W. Posted 5 months ago
I like that this character is gender neutral. I'd go with Carrie-Anne Moss. She's still about the right age, and has SF genre credentials, but isn't mainstream enough for it to be sort of gimmicky and lame when she appears. Alternatively - wait this would be awesome - Kelly McDonald, who played Diane in Trainspotting and the rad reporter in State of Play (original). If you want to go male, any member of the Trainspotting cast would work: Robert Carlyle, Johnny Lee Miller, or Spud.
David R. Posted 5 months ago

If you go with a Male role, Nathan Fillion, he loves Sci-Fi, he has great range, he is neither too old nor too young, and best of all, He was born and raised in Edmonton! Should you go with a Female role, Nathan's Firefly co-star Gina Torres would be excellent, or for a more obscure female lead who I think could do really well is Laura Mennell, who has a history of sci-fi television shows, such a supernatural, and most recently on the show Alphas.
Maggie C. Posted 5 months ago
Jason Statham
Bren W. Posted 5 months ago

Ben S. Posted 5 months ago
Jennifer Aniston, clearly...

Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt
June B. Posted 5 months ago
I've seen a lot of predictable/obvious choices across the top 10 films, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Still, I would like to see more suggestions from outside the box, as it were. Whether male or female, the actor must be current (I think) but who also has integrity and staying power. This person need not be an actor at all. What do you think about Barack Obama?! Don't forget, we need some diversity in these films and he'll be available for sequels etc in the next few years. Maybe Rihanna for a more ethnically diverse female?
Carol H. Posted 5 months ago
Female - Angelina Jolie Male - Kiefer Sutherland
Laurel L. Posted 5 months ago
How about Jennifer Conelly....and she's Canadian!
Stephanie M. Posted 5 months ago
Nathan Fillion!
Mikey G. Posted 5 months ago
Ron Perlman
Zachary V. Posted 5 months ago
He is such a badass actor!
Cyndi F. Posted 5 months ago
I really like this concept. I'd love to see this full film along with some of the other film ideas in the competition.
Dianne L. Posted 5 months ago
I think this would be much more interesting with a female actor. Claire Danes? I'm struggling to come up with a Canadian name.
Colin Y. Posted 5 months ago
The Firefly guy. Nathan Fillion! He's from Edmonton right?
Zachary V. Posted 5 months ago
Yes he is! Thanks Colin
Cyndi F. Posted 5 months ago

Matty G. Posted 5 months ago
Based on the info given I'm going to suggest Antje Traue.
David M. Posted 5 months ago
Keanu Reeves
Zachary V. Posted 5 months ago

Brent C. Posted 5 months ago
Totally Jeremy Renner
Sean W. Posted 5 months ago
Tom Hardy
Zachary V. Posted 5 months ago
I love Tom Hardy!
Peggy S. Posted 5 months ago
Katie Sackhoff. I think that's how you spell her name. She played Starbuck.
Kurt P. Posted 5 months ago
I'm going to agree with some on saying Nathan Fillion. Local talent would be perfect for Edmonton.
Jackson M. Posted 5 months ago
I hope he does too, I bet his work in Firefly would translate extremely well into this movie.
Lindsey M. Posted 5 months ago
Jumping on the Kiefer bandwagon. His grandfather was Tommy Douglas... perhaps you're too young to know who that is? : )
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Of course we know who Tommy Douglas is :P, I actually have a friend related to Kiefer through marriage and they always bring up the Tommy Douglas fact haha
Lindsey M. Posted 5 months ago
That's why you guys are awesome! And nice connections - that would be a big score for Uprising.
I have to agree with others who have said Kiefer Sutherland.
Pam A. Posted 5 months ago
Kiefer Sutherland
Zachary V. Posted 5 months ago
You're not the only on that thinks that! Thanks Pam.
Keri M. Posted 5 months ago

Tricia Helfer. She's every Sci Fi fan's wet dream and she's from Alberta.
Laurel L. Posted 5 months ago
Going to play the Tilda Swinton card again.
Laureen B. Posted 5 months ago
Totally agree with Kiefer Sutherland
Heather O. Posted 5 months ago
Bruce Willis would be perfect.
Erin W. Posted 5 months ago
I'm going to go with Nicholas Hoult.
Alan N. Posted 5 months ago
Matt Smith. Who could be more mysterious? Peta Wilson of course.
Sarah B. Posted 5 months ago
Anne Hathaway.
Zachary V. Posted 5 months ago
Anne Hathaway is one of my favorite female actors, she is definitely on my list. Looks like I'm not the only one. Cheers Sarah!
Mary R. Posted 5 months ago
I think Ryan Reynolds if a male and Blake Lively if a female.
Lorette P. Posted 5 months ago
I like Bruce Willis also.
Nathan M. Posted 5 months ago
This is a tough one. A character for a small role in the first film, strong enough to be a lead in next films. Matthew McConaughey would be a great choice.
Nate J. Posted 5 months ago
Brittney Spears with shaved head. Not only does she look great in a black Zorro catsuit, think of all the money that could be saved by not having her hair done up for every scene. And when it comes to doing a large scale choreographed dance scenes, forget hiring hundreds of dancers and bboys, Multipling Brittney with green screen effects will go a long for keeping production low. Think of the potential spin off for a...wait for it! UPRISING-A broadway musical! Part homeage to Robin Hood and the great classic musicals like Fiddler on the Roof Sound of music Chicago and Mary Poppins! Be brave.Be bold.Be Brittney
Denise M. Posted 5 months ago
Male: Channing Tatum Female: Charlize Theron
Donald Y. Posted 5 months ago
There's only one name comes to mind. Carrie-Ann Moss. Everything I've seen has "Uprising" as a 'jock' film. Adding a strong female character would broaden the appeal in theatres.
MemeModel K. Posted 5 months ago
Taylor Lautner, he would fit....very well...
Marcella C. Posted 5 months ago
Maybe I'm crazy but Kate Beckinsale would be great for this. That soft voice through the movie and at the end she comes out and kicks butt.
Astra L. Posted 5 months ago
I agree with Lena Headey or Ryan Gosling!
Andrea S. Posted 5 months ago
I also love Lena Headey
Mark V. Posted 5 months ago
Some of these suggestions are interesting choices. It's interesting to see whom people think would fit the role.
Patrick S. Posted 5 months ago
I like UberFan Donal's twitter suggestion of Patrick Sabongui!
Jenna H. Posted 5 months ago
Mark Walbherg, Jeremy Renner, Matt Damon
Jordan P. Posted 5 months ago
Matt Damon
Zachary V. Posted 5 months ago
That's a good option because Matt Damon always has a dark undertone that this role requires. Thanks Jordan
Josh P. Posted 5 months ago
Kiefer Sutherland!
Jay R. Posted 5 months ago
Ryan Gosling. That dude knows how to brood, and also happens to be Canadian.
Jo-Ann S. Posted 5 months ago
Tricia Helfer
John K. Posted 5 months ago
Keanu Reeves!
Kaitlyn G. Posted 5 months ago
Henry Cavill is a cool choice
Todd M. Posted 5 months ago
I've always been a fan of casting Canadians in Canadian films... SO I'm going with Barry Pepper.
phil d. Posted 5 months ago
I love the idea of Olmos. Could be a way to get all the BSG fans.
Mikaela Z. Posted 5 months ago
Edward James Olmos. Instant cred because of BSG
Ann-Marie S. Posted 5 months ago
Jason Statham is my choice
Jason M. Posted 5 months ago
I'm going to go with Bradley Cooper
Dana B. Posted 5 months ago
I'm going with Bruce Willis or maybe his former son Ashton.
Heather G. Posted 5 months ago
Henry Cavill could be mysterious and a strong lead in a sequel. Plus he would be great in any battle scenes
Natalia N. Posted 5 months ago
Sarah Michelle Gellar - Just because I'm a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanatic!!! Still love watching the reruns Or Lucy Lawless because I was also a fan of Xena the Warrior Princess growing up and she was the first bad-ass female character I always wanted to be :P
Donal O. Posted 5 months ago
SMG is a great choice!
Cat R. Posted 5 months ago
Erica Durance...oh this is so fun!
Shannon H. Posted 5 months ago
Tricia Helfer. A Strong female actor with a sci-fi following.
Michaelina C. Posted 5 months ago
agree, good choice. good luck :)
Frank C. Posted 5 months ago
I agree with Nathan Fillion. Nice choice for this part. Good luck in the top 5 boys.
Mandy G. Posted 5 months ago
Bruce Willis
Shauna D. Posted 5 months ago
Bruce Greenwood
Andy O. Posted 5 months ago
I agree with the Bruce Greenwood suggestion.
Lisa R. Posted 5 months ago
Lena Headey
Gilbert H. Posted 5 months ago
Can't help but see this role perfect for Nathan Fillion. It'd be an easy fit after some of the other roles he has taken on. Your character might have a darker undertone to him, in which case would be really cool to see Nathan pull off.
Zachary V. Posted 5 months ago
That's a great suggestion, thanks Gilbert!
Natalie B. Posted 5 months ago
Keifer Sutherland. He just has an essence of power about him.
Leanne B. Posted 5 months ago
Go right for a super hot Canadian actor -Ryan Reynolds - being selfish here just because I want the possible opportunity to touch his hair. I think an all new cast of up and coming stars is appropriate for a film like this!
Kaitlyn G. Posted 5 months ago
For a woman I see Eva Green. She is mysterious and strong. I think that would be an interesting choice.
Celene C. Posted 5 months ago
Vin Diesel, he always comes off mysterious and calm.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Just saw Fast and Furious 6, I've been a fan of Vin Diesel since Pitch Black. He is awesome
Shelley T. Posted 5 months ago
Nathan Fillion would be awesome, but if it were to be a woman, Lena Headey would be great.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Love both those actors, great suggestions Shelley! I think Lena would definitely fit the role for sure. Honestly we were already in talks for Fillion because we are from Edmonton and we have a lot of connections to him, so he'd be great for it! Also because of the Firefly community, I think that would easily transition over
Dan C. Posted 5 months ago
KIM COATES
Tim T. Posted 5 months ago
Maybe a bit outside the age bracket, but Bruce Greenwood has such an awesome voice....or if you're open to badass females, Tatiana Maslany is pretty great in Orphan Black.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
That's funny you say that, because me and Zach were talking about who our dream actor to play the role of Hal Grover in our screenplay would be, and I said Bruce Greenwood. He's a fantastic character, and I think the role of Hal would push him to his limits, but he'd be capable of doing an incredible job. Sadly it's not the Pay or Play role haha.
Tatiana would be a great fit!
Rachel C. Posted 5 months ago
Nathan Fillion
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Definitely a great choice. We had a fan talk to him at the Calgary expo about Uprising and seemed interested :)
Jo W. Posted 5 months ago
benedict cumberbatch
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
MY FAVOURITE ACTOR! He would definitely pull off the part, but I think he's to busy getting famous in Hollywood cause he is SO good haha
Bryan E. Posted 5 months ago
Stephen Amell. :P
Jennifer S. Posted 5 months ago
Gerard Butler
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
He was AMAZING in Olympus Has Fallen, he would definitely fit the bill
courtney n. Posted 5 months ago
Hayden Christianson. Why? Star Wars. and man crush. and Canadian
Janine F. Posted 5 months ago
Zachary Quinto
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Just a fantastic actor, he was great in the newest Star Trek. I could see him doing it!
Mark V. Posted 5 months ago
Seems like there is a common liking of Kiefer Sutherland and Carrie Anne Moss. I personally don;t call them my first choices but they would be good for the part.
Chado M. Posted 5 months ago
Eugene levy
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
hahaha He's awesome, but probable more accustomed to american pie :P
justin H. Posted 5 months ago
Kiefer Sutherland of course!
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
I've just been catching up with 24, Kiefer Sutherland is one badass guy haha
Anita N. Posted 5 months ago
Liam Neeson (as in Taken) or Nathan Fillion for a local flavour.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Awesome suggestions!
Jennifer C. Posted 5 months ago
Johnny Depp! He can play complex characters and bring some comedy to the movie. Plus it would give him a chance to break out into the sci-fi genre that we have not seen him in.
justin H. Posted 5 months ago
I'm really starting to get excited you guys!!!!! I want to vote already!
Jordan S. Posted 5 months ago
Bruce Willis without a doubt. Can't go wrong. :)
Mark V. Posted 5 months ago
I don't think he really qualifies in the age category.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Will always be a badass haha
Gill R. Posted 5 months ago
Tom Hardy, without Bane's mask.
Mark V. Posted 5 months ago
I agree I think Tom Hardy could fit. He's very talented.
Jeremy J. Posted 5 months ago
I'd have to agree with Sam L. and say Nathan Fillion would be a great fit for the film
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
We've actually been in talks with is publicist :)
Seth C. Posted 5 months ago
Sean Bean or Charlize Theron
Sam L. Posted 5 months ago
I think Nathan Fillion would be great - and he's from Edmonton!
Mark V. Posted 5 months ago
It's always great to support local talent.
James W. Posted 5 months ago
Dave Thomas looks terrible. I'm just saying. Maybe I should look in the mirror.
Cat R. Posted 5 months ago
Mr. Thomas looks great!....it's just that he's standing next to a very handsome young dude. :-)
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
His spirit was great, I had the chance to sit down an talk to him. He's just getting old but he still has the spark!
June B. Posted 5 months ago
I feel Carrie Ann and Keanu are both too identifiable from the Matrix franchise. Age has to factor in here as well. Casting someone younger will extend the longevity of the character in my opinion but it would also lend itself well as a role model for the young characters.
Mark V. Posted 5 months ago
I love how you guys always pack your missions full of content.
Hannah P. Posted 5 months ago
Stephen Amell for sure!
Laurel L. Posted 5 months ago
Carrie Ann Moss would be awesome and she's Canadian!
Mark V. Posted 5 months ago
Great idea how you can cast the role as either male or female. It will give you so many choices and opportunities.
Martin V. Posted 5 months ago
I think James Franco would be awesome as this character!
Joslyn P. Posted 5 months ago
A very intruiging mission, I like it : ) good luck!
Bari D. Posted 5 months ago
Keanu Reeves or Kiefer Sutherland if kept as a male role.
Benjamin H. Posted 5 months ago
I agree with Carrie Ann Moss.
Liam C. Posted 5 months ago
Bring in Charlie Hunnam.
Paul C. Posted 5 months ago
Carrie Ann Moss, definitely
Marnie D. Posted 5 months ago
So many choices, but I think either Chris Pine or Jake Abel
Lee H. Posted 5 months ago
Kiefer Sutherland! i also second Evangeline Lilly if it is a female. Great work on this one guys!
Nate J. Posted 5 months ago
Brittney Spears with shaved head.
Joslyn P. Posted 5 months ago
I laughed so hard at this :)
Donal O. Posted 5 months ago
I just had a duuh moment as Katee Sackhoff pops into my head. Come to post it and see that Rob picked Grace Park. Both great choices.
Shannon E. Posted 5 months ago
Jessica Biel
Patti D. Posted 5 months ago
Channing Tatum
Rob H. Posted 5 months ago
Grace Park (Battlestar Gallactica)
Mark V. Posted 5 months ago
Evangeline Lilly would be a perfect fit for the role. Or Sharlto Copley. Both have the talent, experience and credibility.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Evangeline Lilly was actually the actress I had in mind! Also she's Albertan!
Shartlo Copley would nail it too.
Tami E. Posted 5 months ago
Yes Carrie Ann Moss! awesome choice
Michelle G. Posted 5 months ago
I know it's a bit out of type for him, but I think Ryan Gosling would be an interesting choice: he's a great actor, athletic, and has a sense of charm and mystery about him - oh did I mention he's Canadian? He's not from out West but I'm sure he wouldn't hold it against you ;)
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
AMAZING suggestion Michelle! He's the man haha. Would definitely fit the bill
Aiden C. Posted 5 months ago
Kim Coats would work well for this roll.
Donal O. Posted 5 months ago
I agree with Aiden. Of all the suggestions, Kim Coats would be the best.
Annelise L. Posted 5 months ago
Anna Kendrick, who had a small role in Twilight, and whose career is really starting to take off could be a very interesting casting choice for this mysterious character.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
She is a great actress, loved her in Up in the Air!
Shawn B. Posted 5 months ago
I second Hugh Dillon.
Ron K. Posted 5 months ago
Carrie-Anne Moss. I loved her in the Matrix movies. She grew up in Vancouver and I'm sure she'd be pumped for a return visit. She would kick some serious ass, and I would pay to watch any movie with her in it, even as a last scene.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
She's amazing, would love to see in the role!
Kerri S. Posted 5 months ago
Angelina Jolie. But for a Canadian actress...Neve Campbell. :)
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Neve Campbell would be great! Awesome suggestion Kerri!
June B. Posted 5 months ago
Ellen Page. Canadian and has done some 'bad-ass' performances. Though, I would like to see the character alternatively morph from male to female when contemplating major decisions to fully explore both sides of the brain as it were. Just a thought.
Akash S. Posted 5 months ago
Ellen Page would be fantastic!
June B. Posted 5 months ago
And don't forget she was in X-Men so she's got international exposure.
Laurel L. Posted 5 months ago
Tilda Swinton. Se would give this character lots of credibility without the obvious cute girl in a black catsuit shtick.
Donal O. Posted 5 months ago
Julie Cox. She played Princess Irulan in the Dune remake on the sci-fi network. She has a compelling british voice and is as tough as nails.
