Perfect way to "dry run" a tattoo before committing to it.

Tory A. Posted 6 months ago
I'm a huge fan of sponsors & it'll be necessary for any film, just becareful relying on it.
Timothy W. Posted 6 months ago
Interesting; different than most of the cheap tricks I've seen. Most people try to figure things out with what they've got, you've recruited people to work for free!
Lukee W. Posted 6 months ago
tattoo!!
Mac L. Posted 6 months ago
Having cleavage in the video still definitely tricked me cheaply into watching it.
Dillon B. Posted 6 months ago

Frank L. Posted 6 months ago
I am in 100% agreement.
Jennifer C. Posted 6 months ago
Getting people to do things for free is not a "cheap trick". It is using your contacts to help further your project. The tattoo trick was cool but still not a cheap trick.
Frank L. Posted 6 months ago
Tattoo "trick" was unreal. Rad stuff.
Steven H. Posted 6 months ago
Wow that tattoo definitely sold as real, didn't even question it when I first saw the trailer! great work

Margaret S. Posted 7 months ago
Lucas has an awesome shirt! Also, that tattoo and the way he brought it about are really amazing! Len's computer effects are well done and vital. Jenna Mae's song really helps set the scene. Robert helping to style is a great addition - people like the eye candy in romcoms and this team is working together to make it happen. Way to go!
Roxanne T. Posted 7 months ago

Shawn B. Posted 7 months ago
It's true... gathering a team of skilled people with the passion to bring the project together as a labour of love is one of the best "cheap tricks". Good luck!
Lindsay A. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting concept
Laura B. Posted 7 months ago
love the sexy yoga man song!! Seriously getting pumped to see this movie on the BIG SCREEN!!
Bryce M. Posted 7 months ago

Julie H. Posted 7 months ago
The tattoo scene is SO great -- what a great job with the FX! And Sexy Yoga Guy is hi.la.ri.ous.
Dan R. Posted 7 months ago
That's great that people are donating time but who is going to donate all the time needed for a feature? Free doesn't seem like a high production value trick. Great for a teaser but not a feature.
Corey T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Dan. Free equalling high production value is actually the key!
Some teams who rely on special effects also follow the free mantra. Even the software used to added explosions and blood splatter etc. is offered "free" for trial periods, something that I am sure many took advantage of.
So wether it is investing the considerable time to source locations and then convince them to work with you on the project, or using plastic pails to mimic a robot, its the background work and time invested that eventually equal the high production value!
Now for a feature film these amazing people can finally get rewarded for their hard work in a monetary way. $1,000,000 in production funding goes a long way to budgeting for the work we will need our team to continue doing!
Amy-Leigh B. Posted 7 months ago
Very impressive. nice tattoo work!
Ryan S. Posted 7 months ago
This epitomizes the grassroots philosophy that makes this competition so great! But, why did you use VFX on the tattoo? Wouldn't some good old fashioned drawing work?
Corey T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Ryan.
The tattoo was actually a combination of body makeup and VFX. Over the course of the shoot the colours and application deteriorated to the point where we needed to have it corrected in post. So actually we should also be saying thanks to the wonderful makeup artist who painted the tattoo to start with!
justin H. Posted 7 months ago
The way you put that tattoo on, just wow!
Marian V. Posted 7 months ago
great work
Paul D. Posted 7 months ago

not bad
Gayle B. Posted 7 months ago
Way to use your networking skills.
Helen M. Posted 7 months ago
Kudos to you & the whole team...can't wait to see it on the big screen!!!
Rod N. Posted 7 months ago
Getting everybody to do things for free is a great way to save money, but it's not really a trick.
Corey T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Rod.
Ingenuity is the key to high production value. For some teams that meant finding trial (free) software that they could use to create the effects they needed. For some that meant sourcing locations, cast, music, etc.
The key is that with a nonexistent budget all these teams managed to produce high quality production value!
patricia s. Posted 7 months ago
not bad
Lucy C. Posted 7 months ago
Inspiring to see the amount of time people are investing into the film!
Jason B. Posted 7 months ago

sdfsa s. Posted 7 months ago
The idea with the tattoos was great!
Imthiyaz H. Posted 7 months ago
I'd love to see how you sold these people on the project, was there a sort of pitch involved? Did they fall in love with the script, its very important though, good job!
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Hi! Well each one was very different. Lucas and I have worked together on a couple different projects of varying size prep time and fast approaching deadlines. So I knew he would know how to do what I was asking and even if it was possible. He said "I've never tracked anyone's nipples before" while working on it.
Jenna Mae and I met at a fundraiser for Africa Yoga Project. She was singing and I loved her voice and because she practices yoga I knew she would have the knowledge and gumption to write and poke fun at the yoga community with which we are both involved.
Lenny is a good buddy of mine. I brought him a humble assortment of craft beer because we have gone on beer and bike trips to Portland and Seattle.
Robert's salon is right near my house. We shot that whole scene in a 90 minute block between their skills workshop and when the salon opened. I think just being personable, and respecting peoples time and limitations goes a long way.
So the overall answer is a have great personal relationship with all these people, they know that I am devoted to my work and my friends, and they thought "The Dangers of Online Dating" was a hilarious concept.
Hanaan D. Posted 7 months ago

mandy b. Posted 7 months ago
very cool
Lucas P. Posted 7 months ago
Looks good but it seems it's mostly about people donating the thousands of dollars of production value to the project instead of coming up with ways to do it on your own.
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Hi Lucas,
Filmmaking is a big collaboration of people. And I recognize my own limitations. I don't have a passion for VFX work, I'm not an accomplished singer/songwriter, I don't have years of coding websites - and I needed a website that I owned the rights to - and I don't work at a hair salon. The way that I work, and problem solve is to ask for help when I need it. I can't do every role, I've done it before and the quality of work always suffers. If you can fulfill every role, you have my acclaim, but I love to collaborate and I love hearing other people's ideas.
Lucas P. Posted 7 months ago
Maybe I misunderstood the mission. Looks great though!
Stephen M. Posted 7 months ago
thats a cool trick!
Joseph T. Posted 7 months ago
Love the look of the tattoo. I'm an actor and have had film tattoos before, so I know how tough it is to make it look as good as you guys did!
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Joseph! I've glad their are people like you who know the skill that my team has to execute things like this!
Sarah T. Posted 7 months ago
I'm with Cam below: loved the POF-style site. Interested in... Made me guffaw. Your enthusiasm is palpable. This is gonna be awesome.
Cam L. Posted 7 months ago

Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
I can neither confirm nor deny this. ;)

People commenting on here are all about the shirt! You must have good taste!
Joel T. Posted 7 months ago
Good to see Vancouver represented in this contest well!
Kaitlyn M. Posted 7 months ago
Love to see support for the film as your best resource and cost-cutting tool. Seems like a great fit for Cinecoup! Hopefully the support can be there if the project and the commitment needed gets even bigger.
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Hi Kaitlyn,
I definitely believe our support is there. I truly value the opinions of everyone that I work with, which I why I ask them to work with me. Cinecoup is really showing how much people like this project as an audience, as well as how dedicated the cast and crew is! It's wonderful to watch!
Shannon E. Posted 7 months ago
Looks like you've got good support behind you. Best of luck.
Billie T. Posted 7 months ago

Marc S. Posted 7 months ago
great contra exposure!
Andrej K. Posted 7 months ago
Right on time to explore
Rod M. Posted 7 months ago
That's cool.
Matthew S. Posted 7 months ago
It's cool to see how many talented people are working for your film, but does this show how you're using "cheap tricks" to save money and be resourceful with the 1 million you get?
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
I think so. It shows that we are resourceful and creative for a variety of line items on a budget. Being able to save cash here would allow us to spend it to attract big name actors for guest starring or cameo roles, music licensing fees for popular songs, getting specialty items like better cameras, or special grip and gaffer equipment which is hard to get donated. It varies for every project depending on what suits the story and who the team knows and what favours they can ask.
But I would hope with a million dollars everyone is getting paid something for their time!
Janine F. Posted 7 months ago
Excellent use of some very talented and generous people. (Love the song :)
Lorette P. Posted 7 months ago
love the tattoo. nice the hear people helping people to get film done.
Roy H. Posted 7 months ago
It is incredible how much post work goes into making these ideas come to life. Bravo
Brent C. Posted 7 months ago
Cool behind the scenes snapshot. Good work.
Dale B. Posted 7 months ago
Love the story and so awesome to see folks willing to help out just because they feel its the right thing to do, makes the whole project even more amazing, looking forward to having a few good laughs with this fun film.
Gianna I. Posted 7 months ago
Great job, especially loved how the tattoo was done! This is one of my favourite projects on CineCoup...looking forward to seeing it in theatres one day soon too! :) (Team Rosalind Revenge)
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Gianna!
I will head to your project to check it out!
Gianna I. Posted 7 months ago
Thank you! Really appreciate that! :)
Jeremy L. Posted 7 months ago
I think it was great to give props for the talent that helped make this happen by giving their time and expertise.
Cinnamon C. Posted 7 months ago
I didn't get a lot of practical tips other than it's important to know the right people, which of course it is, and have them believe in your project.
Michelle G. Posted 7 months ago
Sounds like you were quite resourceful in getting people to help with this project - however I'm not sure if these will necessarily fall in place when people know that you have a million to spend.
Fabien W. Posted 7 months ago
Heeyyyy I know Robert he is my stylist!! Small world...
Jane M. Posted 7 months ago
Well done - I'm a fan of this team and project and I would love to see the movie.
Afzal H. Posted 7 months ago
Great use of resources! Most importantly it shows that the filmmaker has a great vision and the ability to attract all the talent at no cost to do the trailer. Mad skills Lucas Green!!! Make sure you guys do a behind the scenes during production for other upcoming filmmakers to show how it's all brought to life.
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
Great team
Tyler S. Posted 7 months ago
Seems like a bit of exaggerating the costs.
Leslie H. Posted 7 months ago
The tatoo art is really cool, what a great deal. And the song is great.

Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
I'm glad that shows! It definitely is awesome to have people say "yes" when you ask for help!
Natalia N. Posted 7 months ago
really cool about the tattoo but also so inspiring to see the goodness in people with helping others for no money just because they believe in a project. Pay it forward :)
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
I always try to ask people to do things that are interesting and rewarding for them as well. Lenny is a master coder but I'm sure he had fun regardless looking at all the profile pictures and handles, I was sending him.
Kellie M. Posted 7 months ago
I loved this- what a great group of people and what a well put together pitch.
Shane S. Posted 7 months ago
Very resourceful.
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Shane!

Nicely done.
Lianna W. Posted 7 months ago

Crystal L. Posted 7 months ago
It was really awesome seeing the contributions from different people..And i didn't know the tattoo wasn't real!
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Partly real, partly done in post!
Jake S. Posted 7 months ago
Tattoo stuff was a great addition.
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Jake! Lucas did the whole segment of breaking down his work to show it in the video, so all that credit goes to him!
Will R. Posted 7 months ago
Donating time and effort can seem like a great idea, however, is it a viable way to make a career? Artists doing work for no pay ?
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Hey Will,
It is a catch 22. I think that when people donate their time, often they are working above where they would in a paid position, or perhaps just working outside of the box they normally do. Working for free often offers new collaborations as well, that might not get the chance to flourish! But you are right, there are a lot of people out there working for free who should be getting paid. I would say that is the case with almost everyone in the Accelerator.
Steve A. Posted 7 months ago
Like the tattoo demo
Jordan N. Posted 7 months ago
the best way to save money is getting your friends to participate and probably have a much better time working with friends then random people
Jeff U. Posted 7 months ago
It speaks well of your project that you have so many people willing to donate their skills.
Timothy C. Posted 7 months ago
The tattoo art is really impressive, good work. This movie seems very do-able on a smaller budget!
Amanda T. Posted 7 months ago
Tattoo work was slick. I like seeing the tricks used in movies without the obvious explosions. Good work, team.
Andrew V. Posted 7 months ago
I like the original works in the project and as well as the passion everyone involved is showing in the project
Monty J. Posted 7 months ago
really cool
Devon D. Posted 7 months ago
Dig the original track done by Jenna Mae, and it's always great to have a group of people who are all dedicating their time to make something awesome - excellent work!
June B. Posted 7 months ago
Nice work on the tattoo. Shows dedication. Jenna Mae is hilarious :)
David L. Posted 7 months ago
If your passionate about your work, there really isn't a price you can put on it. #cheaptrick I think not.
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
Clever
Andrew V. Posted 7 months ago
This looks like it will be quite funny. Definitely see the potential.

It's awesome to see the process and the hard work from such talented artists in this project!!! Wish you guys the best! Can't wait to see more :)
Jaden N. Posted 7 months ago
The fake tattoo is pretty realistic in this clip! Pretty awesome of all of these guys to donate their time for the video.
Terry D. Posted 7 months ago
Hard not to vote against a tattoo.
Hailey F. Posted 7 months ago
Digging Lucas' t-shirt. But more than that, digging everyone's involvement. Serious cool. Would like to learn more about the tat.
Brianne N. Posted 7 months ago
The tattoo was first done with practical make up by Devon Bree Baker. Because it was so large, it was done with a stencil and then freehanded. We used VFX to spruce it up a little bit because with the numerous takes, and perspiration, the tattoo wasn't holding so well and I needed it to look amazing. Thanks for asking!
Bari D. Posted 7 months ago
How did you go about finding these talent members of your team?
John K. Posted 7 months ago
Find people who are excited in your project and get them to help... great networking and resourcefulness
Iain L. Posted 7 months ago
That tatoo trick is pretty sweet. Most impressive.
Tyler S. Posted 7 months ago
One day I'll have to composite a sexy tattoo on myself while I do yoga and listen to that sweet song ;) Great job!
Brent L. Posted 7 months ago
good stuff
Shelley T. Posted 7 months ago
Great video. It's great all those people gave their time to help.

I really like seeing how much work has gone into everything you have done so far. I'm very excited to see this in theatres!

I liked the teaser. Didn't enjoy this second mission. It seems like the only way to make an affordable, well-made indie film is to know people willing to give you things for free. Not a lot of creativity or imagination there. Sorry.

Thanks Carolyn. Indie film is about sacrifice and thankfully there are people willing to support the filmmaking teams (many times who work for free) to make their creative vision happen. Support comes in many forms, but when a LOT of ground work is done to marshal resources and volunteers, I think all Indie teams are extremely happy to have the help!
