Nanci L. Posted 5 months ago
technical quality of this not great. sound is 75%? why is it a moving picture show then?
Seamus D. Posted 5 months ago
Sound is everything.
Susanna R. Posted 5 months ago
Music is what I remember often in a film, especially if a sequel uses it as well.
Crystal V. Posted 5 months ago
Music is a great way to really sell a scene.
Becca H. Posted 5 months ago
Just like original Star Trek.
David R. Posted 5 months ago

Shelley B. Posted 5 months ago
I really liked At home by myself with you... great movie.
Frances L. Posted 5 months ago
Thanks, Jeremy! :)
Luke M. Posted 5 months ago
I'm thinking sound and music shouldn't be relied upon so much. I fear this not having felt enough plot in the trailer.
Iris O. Posted 5 months ago
Love the flying to mars trick. Macgyver would be proud.
Frances L. Posted 5 months ago
Indeed. :)
Sunny K. Posted 5 months ago

Richard C. Posted 5 months ago
Great
Frances L. Posted 5 months ago
Thanks so much, Richard! :)
Mital G. Posted 5 months ago
Completely agree with you about keeping budgets down by writing clever and production design. Cinematography and sound crucial. Glad you spelt it out.
Frances L. Posted 5 months ago
Thanks, Mital. Glad Kris was able to convey that in this mission. He's done it before, and we know he can do it again. :)
Betty H. Posted 5 months ago
Lots of tricks shared; you should have a look here, and of course, love/heart it!
Frances L. Posted 5 months ago
Thanks, Betty! :)
Lori T. Posted 5 months ago

Frances L. Posted 5 months ago
Thanks, Lori! We can definitely get'er done! :)
Mary L. Posted 5 months ago
How'd you get the soundboard to do that neat trick?
Lori T. Posted 5 months ago
I liked that, too!
Frances L. Posted 5 months ago
Cool! :)
Frances L. Posted 5 months ago

Lily K. Posted 6 months ago
Good rules and nice experience too. This is fast and witty.
Frances L. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks, Lily!

Frances L. Posted 6 months ago
Definitely! :)
Meaghan D. Posted 6 months ago
Really hope I get to see this movie!!
Frances L. Posted 6 months ago
You will! One way or another, it will be made! :)
Kathleen B. Posted 6 months ago
Interesting look behind the scenes! Thanks!
Frances L. Posted 6 months ago
You're welcome. :) And thank you for the comment.
Glen H. Posted 6 months ago
This is an important mission for your project. Space is typically not a low budget place to shoot.
Frances L. Posted 6 months ago
Definitely - and Kris can do it!
Pandora M. Posted 6 months ago
meh
Joann K. Posted 6 months ago
Good tip
Frances L. Posted 6 months ago

greg c. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks for the peek behind the scenes and some good advice too!
Frances L. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks, Greg! :)
Cat R. Posted 6 months ago
I agree that sound is about 75% of the movie and music is the fastest way to get the audience into the movie. Master that and you master the film. Great tips, thanks for sharing.
Frances L. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks, Cat! :) There's more coming.
Sue M. Posted 6 months ago
"Cheap tricks" very effective. Love the creativity!
Frances L. Posted 6 months ago

Pretty fun breezy clip showing us so many aspects of scaling your production.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Great comment, Derek. Thanks! :)
Casey G. Posted 7 months ago
I'm sorry but I don't see exactly where you demonstrate a cheap trick as outlined by this particular mission.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Hi Casey - in the video, we've tried to show a number of different cheap tricks that Kris has used in his other movies: using different camera angles to make spaces look larger than they are, having a one-location set, etc. We'll keep showing you more as we go. Thanks for the comment. :)
Colin T. Posted 7 months ago
love the model rocket trick, cool video guys
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Cool, Colin. Thanks! :)

Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for the comment and feedback, Patrick! :)
Joan L. Posted 7 months ago
As someone who knows nothing about this field, I found the video to be informative. I'm sure it is a challenge.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for your comment, Joan! :)
Danny L. Posted 7 months ago
that is more of a pitch than an explination of a cheap trick its a great pitch though
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Danny! :)
Bern E. Posted 7 months ago
Great and practical things to apply to any movie. Nice!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome! :)
Brad D. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting to hear you talk about the process of making the film, but I don't know if this constitutes a cheap trick. The pictures do more to explain it than the video did.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for the feedback, Brad. We'll definitely look forward to showing you more. :)
Montgomerie J. Posted 7 months ago
Pretty cool.

Indeed. Thanks for the comment, Sean! :)

y'all are rock stars of cheap tricks. Go team!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Yea!! That's what we like to hear! :)
anda r. Posted 7 months ago
Nicely done!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Andra! :)
Andrew Q. Posted 7 months ago
Love the project. Constructive feedback: some of the CG renders in the pitch video were jarring. The miniatures in "Moon" achieved the same "you are there" effect and were easier to buy as a viewer.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome comment, Andrew. Thank you! :)
Doug B. Posted 7 months ago
Definitely a good area of focus, but I would say you need to pay a little more attention to the sound in the mission video itself, especially if you're going to focus on it so heavily as a topic.
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
Hey, thanks Doug! I know sound is an issue that I'm working on for personal videos like this. Currently I don't have a budget... for these missions. But if this project wins YOU will not have to worry about the sound.
In the past when I hire sound people I talk with them at lengths about the scenes. I always ask sound if the take was good, if there is any hesitation I make a choice to do it again.
That being said... I know i talk about sound being important and then the missions need sound love. GREAT NOTE.
Shelley O. Posted 7 months ago
I love finding this behinds the scenes gold.
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks you! Gold is on mars... did you know that ;-)
Jennifer M. Posted 7 months ago
Very nice!
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks!
Lisa M. Posted 7 months ago
All sensible tricks -- and very true!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Lisa! :)
Benoit C. Posted 7 months ago
great points on camera trickery!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Benoit. Kris definitely knows his stuff. :)
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks guys. Truth is that Camera tricks will be the #1 way of selling the movies visuals. The Set is an important part of any incamera trick... as I don't have the kickass set yet... it's hard to prove that I know what I'm talking about... I hope that people will trust me or watch my past films. cheers
Danny M. Posted 7 months ago
I see some good ingenuity here!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Danny! Great compliment! :)
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
NOW i choose to love that comment! thanks
Alexa B. Posted 7 months ago
Glad to see a wide variety of 'tricks' described, not just focusing on special effects.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Glad you liked it, Alexa! :)
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Alexa, when you see this movie you think that it has to be front to back VFX! it doesn't. not if it's about Characters.
Jeff C. Posted 7 months ago
well done
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Why thank you! :)
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
cheers
Jermaine L. Posted 7 months ago
Very simple, but equally well done.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome to hear, thank you!
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
Less is always more! thanks for the comment
Tina K. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Tina! :)
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
cool! I can't wait to show you the movie!
Sandra L. Posted 7 months ago
Your flying to Mars trick is awesome! Looks so real!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Sandra. I'm not sure which one that was, so I'll have to go back myself and watch. Kris shows a lot of cool things in there. :)
Mark B. Posted 7 months ago
Guys, you know all the right tricks!! Sweet mission video!! Best of luck.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thank you, Mark! Much appreciated.
Steven J. Posted 7 months ago
I never would have known! Keep up the good work folks.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Steven! :)
Fernando P. Posted 7 months ago
Ambitious to say the very least!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Hi Fernando, thanks so much for the comment. It may be ambitious, and that's part of what makes it fun. There's absolutely no doubt we can do this for the million. Kris has it all planned out. Very exciting. :)
Shannon E. Posted 7 months ago
I must say I learned something from this. Sooound...
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Cool, great to learn new things. :)
Anita N. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
That's always a good thing. :)
KingPin L. Posted 7 months ago
Wow. Nicely done guys!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks! :)
Shannon P. Posted 7 months ago
A lot of thought went into this!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Hi Shannon, it definitely did. Kris has done a number of other projects using these concepts, and it's fun to see them presented in this way...at least for me. :)
Kaitlyn M. Posted 7 months ago
Lots of really strong, practical examples of budget cutting in film. I think it could have been even stronger with a few more examples of these techniques actually being applied to Red Horizon.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Great constructive comment, Katilyn. Thank you. :)
Becky D. Posted 7 months ago
I like the way you guys explain this. Good job.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Becky! :)
Aiden C. Posted 7 months ago
Great tricks and agree sound is key especially on low budget shoots.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Definitely! Thanks for the comment, Aiden! :)
Alex P. Posted 7 months ago

Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Alex! :)
Marc S. Posted 7 months ago
sound is very important - agreed!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Absolutely! :)
Tina V. Posted 7 months ago
great job
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago

well done
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago

Jessica L. Posted 7 months ago
Love the tricks! I agree with sounds being important, but good actors definitely helps too!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
For sure! Can't do without that. :)
Scott M. Posted 7 months ago
Yes - sound can make such a difference to the feeling conveyed in a scene!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Definitely! :)
Natalia N. Posted 7 months ago
I love the 'canadian movies kick ass' shirt and you guys are completely right! sound is the definitely the most important thing
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, Natalie! Thanks for the comment! :)
Betty H. Posted 7 months ago
The Red Horizon Team shared some valuable "cheap tricks". I loved how they were able to educate me in the filming process.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, Betty. Kris really had some great points in there. :)
Eden W. Posted 7 months ago
Very cool, I will pass on to our sound guy!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Eden! Great connecting with you. :)
Jonathon C. Posted 7 months ago
Sound mixing seems almost like a lost concept to some projects on cinecoup. There are many missions where the dialogue is almost inaudible under the score so good on you guys for focussing on this.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Jonathan! :)
Allan W. Posted 7 months ago
Good job gang! #i90Army
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Allan. You, too! :)
Laurie S. Posted 7 months ago
Sound is very important! good job.
Gianna I. Posted 7 months ago
Great job guys! (Team Rosalind Revenge)
Del L. Posted 7 months ago
Good job man!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Del! :)
Michelle G. Posted 7 months ago
I'm really rooting for you guys - however I wish you had spent a little more time on this mission - the sound was a bit fuzzy in some parts and there was a glare on the screen when talking to your composer.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for the comment, Michelle!! Much appreciated. :)
Fernanda P. Posted 7 months ago
good job!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Fernando! :)
Bobbi F. Posted 7 months ago
Convinced that Red Horizon can be done on this budget.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome! And indeed, it can. :)
Zach L. Posted 7 months ago
Seems like you have a good plan. I would have liked to find out how you intend on creating some of the potentially expensive sci-fi scenes, such as prolonged outside shots of the ship, or even interior scenes where space is visible, in a way that's convincing and doesn't look cheap.
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
Great question! The reason why this has to be a $1million movie rather than a $40K (like my last feature) is because of set. We will not skimp on the set as it will essentially be a character in the film. The concept of the movie is to work within confined space - the astronauts cannot leave the ship, so the audience can't. There won't be prolonged shots of space outside, rather on-board computer schematics will let us see what the ship looks like from the outside etc. Window shots will have to be excellent CGI. We'll be saving $$ with small cast and one location - we can put those bucks towards set, CGI and sound.
Joseph L. Posted 7 months ago
Initially, while I LOVED the trailer, I was a bit sceptical of the feasibility of producing this, but now I am far more convinced.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, thanks Joseph! That's great to hear. :)
Aaron S. Posted 7 months ago
How are you going to overcome the challenge of making the 'capsule' seem like it's in space? This is something that has caught out many lower budget productions before and I'd be interested how you plan to overcome it.
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
That's an amazing question! It's something that I'm constantly thinking about in the script stage. The characters will have to deal with some anti-gravity, but there will be a technology based on magnets to ensure that a 3 yr mission is physiologically possible. It's a claustrophobic movie so we never exit the space capsule. Views out windows will be created by top of the line VFX.
Aaron S. Posted 7 months ago
Great news!
Dan S. Posted 7 months ago
totally agree with you on 75 percent sound. Nice segment! - team PA
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, Dan! :)
Tammy H. Posted 7 months ago
I agree the sound is critical to the believability of the scene. If there is no background sounds then it looks like a stilted performance, with those small sounds add (ie streetcar passing, jangling of keys) it changes the whole ambiance of the scene and it becomes more believable.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Great comment, Tammy. Thanks! :)
Ryan G. Posted 7 months ago
Sound is definitely key, but getting one more take and a better performance will outplay any lack of effects.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome to hear your input, Ryan! Thanks. :)
Scotty W. Posted 7 months ago
Audio is important, for sure. But I don't go to the movies to listen to them with my eyes closed. Every part is equally weighted and they all have to be top-notch to make a successful film.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Great to hear your point of view, Scotty! Thanks. :)
Will R. Posted 7 months ago
I am with you Kris. Audio has always been what sets apart amateur from professional
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
The sound issue is something I learned back when we did "anything goes" in high school!
Will R. Posted 7 months ago
Oh yes, and of course, sound is always fun when you have 5 cameras over two shows in multiple angles, manned by fidgety teenagers, and a non linear VHS editing suite!!
Timothy C. Posted 7 months ago
Agreed that music is possibly one of the most engaging and gripping things that hook the audience immediately, but was hoping to see more of the visual side of things as well.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Timothy, we can tell you that there's a big visual mission coming up in two weeks, so stay tuned. :)
Timothy C. Posted 7 months ago
Nice! Looking forward to it.
steve l. Posted 7 months ago
Sound & Music can make or break it. They are the mood setters!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Definitely! Thanks for the comment, Steve. :)

Rick J. Posted 7 months ago
Nice job
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Rick! :)
David M. Posted 7 months ago
"Be Brave" on the board. Add "Have Faith" to it. Believe in the project you're making and it comes across in the final result. Looking forward to seeing this.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, thanks David! :)
Rose L. Posted 7 months ago
Great job Kris! I have no doubt you can get it done. -Team #LDRfilm

Very well articulated.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Great feedback, thank you June! :)
Bari D. Posted 7 months ago
Do you use a computer software to help create space scenes? Thank you
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Hi Bari, great question. I'll check with the big guy himself and find out. :)
Skye B. Posted 7 months ago
Wonderfully made. It's amazing what you can do on a fair budget! Here's to making the million!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, thanks Skye! :)

That's great. You learn something new every day. Go team!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Yea, thanks Lynn! :)
Sarah B. Posted 7 months ago
Wow. Your cheap tricks are way classier than my cheap tricks.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Aren't all cheap tricks good cheap tricks? :) Thanks for the comment.
Scott M. Posted 7 months ago
Having seen what Kris can do on a *really* small budget, I can't wait to see what he would do with a million bucks!!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Yea! Us, too! :)
Tyler M. Posted 7 months ago
you didn't show me anything from your film though, so fail. transmission
Jeff R. Posted 7 months ago
There was a previsualization of a female astronaut gazing out the ship, this was all done using effects. Also the point of this contest is to RAISE money to make the film. Horse - cart.
Tyler M. Posted 7 months ago
Ok, point taken, I just would have liked to hear more specifics regarding your project, I like the rocket model photo, that was specific :) the previsualization of the astronaut, cool, tell me how you did it and what it cost ;)
scott w. Posted 7 months ago
great job
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Scott! :)
Ryan B. Posted 7 months ago
I would like to more about the dissonant drone that could only be one thing....
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Hmm...I think Kris will need to respond to this. :)
Ramona B. Posted 7 months ago
Sorry that wasn't a real comment. Here's my real comment - Kris Booth knows how to make a low-budget feature film. Because he's done it: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/movie/at-home-by-myself...-with-you/id364612915 GO Team Red Horizon!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Yes! He's done it. :)
Heather G. Posted 7 months ago
Ahah I love the cheap trick, looks real. Especially when a trip to space costs millions, well probably thousands!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, thanks Heather! :)
Ramona B. Posted 7 months ago
BRYCE.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Indeed! :)
Betty H. Posted 7 months ago
Red Horizon's "Cheap Tricks" is amazing! I am learning so much about the filming processes from these enchanting creators!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, thanks Betty! :)
Lizzy T. Posted 7 months ago
Great detail with all the diagrams of how you've used sets in the past. Looking foward to more from your team.
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Lizzy. We'll definitely have more for you to come. :)
Bryce M. Posted 7 months ago
... Oh, anyone else love the fact that these are called 'missions'? Rather fitting, me thinks. Go team Red Horizon on your mission to making Mars!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Definitely fitting! Thanks for all your contributions. Awesome mission, awesome music! :)
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
There is more to production value then what a computer program can give. There is heart and experience. I really hope that you guys can give TEAM RED a chances to show you. Thank you for your support - don't forget to click the heart :-)
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
And thank YOU for the innovation, vision and the magic that makes what's small be really, really BIG! :)
Bryce M. Posted 7 months ago
Maybe some source music from Cheap Trick in honour of this mission?!
Andrea M. Posted 7 months ago
Check out "At Home By Myself...With You" on Netflix if you want to see what Kris and his peeps can do with just pocketchange!
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Love "At Home By Myself...with You" :)
Heather G. Posted 7 months ago
I definitely have to check out "at home by myself... With you". Thanks
Linda A. Posted 7 months ago
I bet most of us could identify a movie with just a few bars of music from it, I agree very important part Kris. Can't wait to hear and see the visuals as you bring your script to life :)
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome, thanks for the comment Linda! :)
Frances L. Posted 7 months ago
