Umberto C. Posted 6 months ago
Looks like it was really cold too, impressive.
Amy L. Posted 6 months ago
How you guys make your "effects" look so professionally done with such a low budget is beyond me! Impressed. I know that this is a winning movie.
Timothy W. Posted 6 months ago
There's an Edmonton viking re-enactment troupe? I really need to get my friends in on this! Also, nice cheap tricks!
TBiddy U. Posted 6 months ago
More! We need more! Can't wait to see this!
Larry J. Posted 6 months ago

Joe M. Posted 6 months ago
People who are aware of the history of horror in film and not merely the modern slasher norm. Your use of music in this segment is inspired.

jane D. Posted 6 months ago
cool
Mike K. Posted 6 months ago
Cool.
Jay R. Posted 6 months ago
Love finding out how that overhead shot was done. It makes the Alberta boy in me smile. Would have personally liked to see how you guys caught that melting blood effect too.
Lindsey M. Posted 6 months ago
Super easy. Just dumped it in deep snow, there's always lots of that! We lucked out with just the right consistency.
Renee D. Posted 7 months ago

Ada K. Posted 7 months ago

Nathan M. Posted 7 months ago
Sometimes knowing the right people to help is the best way to get things done. i did laugh out loud though when the video started and I heard the phrase I have said on set so many time..."Quiet on Set!"

Fantastic!
Steve C. Posted 7 months ago
Great stuff
Chris F. Posted 7 months ago
How do you get access to that camera and a dolly track for no money?

stephen w. Posted 7 months ago
I think using interesting locations is what really sets you guys apart.
Lisa R. Posted 7 months ago
not bad not into horrors so not for me
Lesley C. Posted 7 months ago
Not usually my cup of tea either, but I am really digging the fairytale elements of it.
Dawn B. Posted 7 months ago
Resourcefulness certainly is key and you've proven that you can make something pretty special with very little.
Kelly B. Posted 7 months ago
I like how the use of the light is incorporated even with the producers of the film...then you see it with the latern, the car lights etc... COOL !!!
David O. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for including a shot of me in this haha.
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Of course David! You're the best part!

Dino R. Posted 7 months ago

Ryan S. Posted 7 months ago
The mobility of the kerosene light will throw some awesome moving shadows in those woods! And it gives off a nice glimmer in our more accessible of resources: the snow.

Zhong Z. Posted 7 months ago
excellent
Tyson L. Posted 7 months ago
Great job! I didn't even know we had a viking reenactment troupe in Alberta!
Ross H. Posted 7 months ago
Some of Alberta's Viking Re-enactment groups Include 'Odin's Ravens' (Edmonton Chapter of Vikings Vinland), 'Son's of Fenrir' (Calgary chapter of Vikings Vinland), SCA Huscarls, Knighthaven Viking household. Let me know where you are from and what your interests are and I'll point you in the right direction Tyson.
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Right on! Network!!
Tyson L. Posted 7 months ago
You already did! I am from Edmonton
Katie A. Posted 7 months ago
you've achieved some beautiful results with your creative (& cheap) techniques! well done!
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks everyone for all the great feedback! We hope we're sharing something you could use in the future. Any more questions, please ask!
Angela G. Posted 7 months ago
As any good camper knows, a kerosene lamp is a MUST. I love that it was able to light your scenes so effectively!
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Angela. I'm sure camping will never be the same again. Hahaha.
Jody C. Posted 7 months ago
We have a Viking Reenactment troupe in Edmonton? Who knew?
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
It's true! And they knew SO much more about Berserker Warriors than I did, and I do a lot of research!
Ross H. Posted 7 months ago
Jody 'Odin's Ravens' of Vikings Vinland is a group that operates in the Edmonton area. If this sort of thing interests you I can help you find more information. We are part of 'Vikings Vinland' and in mid April we will meet Wednesday nights 7:00 at Hollyrood school Gym
Jody C. Posted 7 months ago
Amazing! I am totally going to look you guys up.
Parker W. Posted 7 months ago
Go edmonton!

LOL @ Jameson "Think of all the kerosene lamps you could have with $1M!!" I think you did a great job with the trailer, and this shows your have creativity to go along with the talent.
Michael C. Posted 7 months ago
Best resource you can have is creative mind - great quote
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Michael! We believe it's true.
Jameson C. Posted 7 months ago
Think of all the kerosene lamps you could have with $1M!! You'll take the word 'brilliant' to new heights! :P
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Imagine 250,000 lamps. We'll spend the rest on food.
Steven H. Posted 7 months ago
I think that the use of a kerosene lamp is brilliant! Maybe 'constructively' add coloured gels to change the mood. That's all I wrote. PEACE!
Natalia N. Posted 7 months ago
Extremely creative ideas with using the vikings and kerosene lamp
Donal O. Posted 7 months ago
Well done guys. The use of the kerosene lamps gives the film a real atmosphere and shows how you can use the $1m most effectively.
Joanie M. Posted 7 months ago
Go Alberta!

Shannon E. Posted 7 months ago
Looks great and you definitely are resourceful. Imagine what you could do with 1M, indeed.
Lesley C. Posted 7 months ago
Wow, creepy video!
Tally K. Posted 7 months ago
That gas lamp is awesome, and the abandoned church! Nice work looking for people who already have Viking costumes and are interested in that subject. Great job!
Redmond O. Posted 7 months ago
The location, lighting and camera work look terrific. Going low-budget on historical viking costumes is pretty tricky -- if they're supposed to be cheesy it can work well. Otherwise we anal types obsess over this stuff.
Ross H. Posted 7 months ago
It is a tough call on the costuming, the 'WAR-drobe' that we use for re-enactment is made of natural fibers, Linen, & Wool. I was hesitant to bring out my authentic gear as I had not yet tested out the blood. Luckily the blood washed out quite easily. We tried to blend Hollywood style expectations with, a modest degree of authenticity. I'll admit that the belt I wore was unusualy thick and wastefull for the Viking age. and that there is little evidence of Vikings wearing pauldrons. We chose not to wear helmets adorned with horns, how ever I blow a signal horn, and drink out of another. The Shields were plywood wasters, with more time and training the camera would not see the inside of the shields.
Derek C. Posted 7 months ago
Love the church scene... very 70's italian!
Michael L. Posted 7 months ago
Kerosene light is brilliant! -- [Mr. Tom]
Emilio S. Posted 7 months ago

Oh, voting tomorrow!
Wildcat W. Posted 7 months ago
Great stuff. Lighting really does create the mood.
Gill R. Posted 7 months ago
That lamp is a great trick, it definitely looks like you used more to light the scenes. Great, and cheap, effect.
Kirk S. Posted 7 months ago
Keep up the great work, GJR!
Cinnamon C. Posted 7 months ago
Great techniques! I will share this with the Caraway junior high students who are into film projects, thanks!
Lawrence T. Posted 7 months ago
Great ideas, cool production techniques,go Lindsay go
Tawni B. Posted 7 months ago
I love that you are reaching out to other groups of people. Who better to play vikings than some guys who play vikings, and have their own authentic costumes. This film was created by a community, that used what they had in some special ways. Awesome!
Simone F. Posted 7 months ago
Awkwardly creepy?
Simon T. Posted 7 months ago
More Lindsey, please.
Todd M. Posted 7 months ago
Great to see someone thinking outside the box. As part of Team Wolf Cop, we can relate to using as much at your disposal to get the results you're looking for. Never saw the tricks as "cheap", just resourceful. Great work guys.
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Todd! We're big fans. And I agree. It's all about creativity, trying things out and seeing what happens. That's the fun part, right?
Samantha L. Posted 7 months ago
Consistent with the vibe of your first mission video, I like the unveiling piece by piece of the "spooky" story behind this project. Well done!
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Samantha! We're having a lot of fun and more spooky videos to come!
Reginald R. Posted 7 months ago
Kerosene lamp. Brilliant!
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks! We were surprised the lamp would emit enought light. It really allowed us to get those "American Horror Story" shadows AND the lamp comes with it's own dimmer switch!
Chado M. Posted 7 months ago
Great job of showing that it's not always what you put in, but it's also what you take away too!
Lew D. Posted 7 months ago
Very clever, guys!
Seth C. Posted 7 months ago
That church is perfect. -Grade Nine Dork
Jennifer P. Posted 7 months ago
True that!
Lowell D. Posted 7 months ago
Nicely done! Love the cinematography. - Team WolfCop
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Lowell! We loved your video too.
Knighten R. Posted 7 months ago
I like that the video uses the very same lighting technique as discussed!
Travis B. Posted 7 months ago
Exactly! Except we don't talk about the leprechaun anymore...
Cody K. Posted 7 months ago
you guys are awesome! we need to all go out for team drinks!
Travis B. Posted 7 months ago
Agreed!
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
Feeling is mutual Cody! We're big fans!
Joe S. Posted 7 months ago
I like the white noise from the lantern.
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
