I enjoyed the operatic undertone to the music and the sound effects. Great effort from this talented team
Attila M. Posted 5 months ago
ears to be an engaging and complex story and this short clip gives the sense of that. There is great cinematic potential always in a film that has so much going on in it and I feel that this mission video did an excellent job representing and highlighting the best aspects of films like this. Colors blend and images blur or fade and cut to sharp clear scenes of the army or Guillermo and all of that complexity of images is tantalizingly addictive to watch! Thank you and congratulations to the Donde Esta Guillermo team for all their expertise and hard work!
Melissa S. Posted 6 months ago
I wish this told us more of the story. It feels way too much like the trailer and I don't know any more of the story than I started with.
Melissa H. Posted 6 months ago
I thought the opera song was out of place. I'm not an expert by any means, but the colour and lighting did seem to be ... off.
Crystal D. Posted 6 months ago
Color and lighting not the best in this one and I am having trouble following the story and what you are telling to convey
Joslyn P. Posted 6 months ago
Very interesting, enjoyed it, nice work :)
jane D. Posted 6 months ago
cool
John W. Posted 6 months ago
This a little tailer in itself. It moves along rather well. It shows confusion, an aggitated state and makes me curious.
Maddi M. Posted 6 months ago
Cool
Mac L. Posted 7 months ago
Very nice! It looks like an ad that would play before a movie, and I mean that in the best way!
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
Haha, thank you for such an unusual compliment, we took it the best way as well! Thank you for supporting us :)
Will B. Posted 7 months ago
Some very interesting shots here but I had no idea what was going on and this felt like a second, alternate trailer rather than a scene with a sense of story... Good luck guys!
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks Will! You do have a point and we hope to keep unveiling the story in the next opportunities
Jamie M. Posted 7 months ago
I didn't really like the color in this guys, I thought it was a bit saturated in places where it could have been more realistic. Also seemed more of a montage then a scene.
Dimas T. Posted 7 months ago
looks interesting this film, looks like things that can happen in venezuela or happen in the years before
Shaun R. Posted 7 months ago
i really liked how the shots were taking but i felt lost through the scene was played out a little to jarring
Fraser C. Posted 7 months ago
Was a little lost through parts of this but still felt like I want to see more. The last scene wasn't as good as the scenes before it.
Jordan D. Posted 7 months ago
The parking lot scene was a bit over dramtic but the rest of the short was fairly well done. I liked it more than the trailer for sure.
Andrew H. Posted 7 months ago
I really like the premise of this movie, I'm pulling for it. This speechless part is better than the actual trailer in my opinion.
Teela B. Posted 7 months ago
Okay.
Ryan M. Posted 7 months ago
I liked this a lot. Really interesting scene and I'm curious as to where it will go. I hope you guys get this done
Mandi B. Posted 7 months ago
I loved the lighting. I'm curious to see how this will fit in your story. I really enjoyed this. Hope it gets made.
Aiden C. Posted 7 months ago
The lighting of your project is very interesting. It reminds me a lot of "Man on Fire" and "Domino" I did find the singing at the end of the sequence distracting and went against the feel of the rest of the film which is more a frantic mood to it. The song you had felt too classical. Regardless well done.
Peter M. Posted 7 months ago
The music for me makes this speechless. The trailer itself is a little bit empty on content but it is well composed.
Peter M. Posted 7 months ago
Very dark and ominous. Could be fun :)
Patrick C. Posted 7 months ago
It plays like a concept trailer rather than a scene. I like this film concept but this video doesn't do much for me.
Brent M. Posted 7 months ago
Some of this looks like it's direct from the trailer, which is both fair, considering how much work those shots must have been, and makes me like it a little less. Some very impressive, arty shots (especially the smoke) intercut with shots that are a little underwhelming (the president on the roof in the bottom right corner, the camera a little shaky.) The ocean shot is an interesting idea; it's bright and sunny, though, and I'm not sure why. I think having some other way to represent the explosion itself might have helped. The post-explosion house looks really cool, but it also looks like a house with lights and debris in it made up to look like it was in an explosion, rather than a real exploded house (to be fair, really ambitious to try to portray that moment). I wasn't sure where the parking garage was, or what it was, or what exactly was happening with the suitcase and the soldiers, or why exactly there was someone laying on the ground. Was that one of the soldier characters we'd seen before, or just a random victim of the coup?
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
Thank you for such a detailed feedback Brent, you do have a point in us somewhat complementing the initial scene of the overthrowing of the president, but we felt it was a good moment to elaborate on... I hesitated for a bit to show an actual palace exploding, and in the end we decided not to use it and play with all kinds of ambiguous imagery and play along with Guillermo's subconscious as he's recovering from the impact; we wanted to show the way he was taken out of the Presidential Palace in a rushed manner, the body laying on the ground was a random victim of the uprise and the street fights. We also did not show his father -we did shoot him the day of, lying on the ground- but we felt it worked better leaving it as a mystery. Plus, we only had 90 seconds. Again, thank you for your feedback and questions!
Fern L. Posted 7 months ago
Very well done. Loved the editing. It was very effective in getting the story across in a short period of time. The music was really interesting too.
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
Thank you Fern, we're lucky to have had a piece custom-fit by Stephen Spencer, a very talented musician and composer, Montreal Based. We're grateful for your feedback!
Jamie T. Posted 7 months ago
The colouring is funky, but I guess it's nice that it isn't the usual blue and orange or everything muted.
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
That is a nice way of putting things Jamie, thank you for pointing that out, we're big fans of colors over here...
Cat K. Posted 7 months ago
I wish I could type in "100 Characters" and boom, get votes for you. You're doing such great work. Can't wait to see more. Thank you!
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
Thank you Cat! As usual your constant feedback means a lot to us.
Rogel D. Posted 7 months ago
Great camera work and acting. Storytelling is very detailed and well told. Would love to see the full film
Janai R. Posted 7 months ago
Haha you totally copy and pasted this. Not a bad plan sometimes it's hard to find enough to say. Thought this video was good!
Candy H. Posted 7 months ago
the colouring was good.Looking forward to seeing more of the movie and how it develps. Does he return to his home country?
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
Thank you Candy, We're looking forward to telling you the story as well. What do you think, should he go back to his home country?
Patrick M. Posted 7 months ago
I love the colour and the feel, but the images are so edited and transition so quickly that I kind of feel disoriented
Benoit C. Posted 7 months ago
Love this... His face of shock when he's dragged away to the suv and leaving everything behind, I'm sure a lot of people will feel related with this.
Cloee C. Posted 7 months ago
I am excited to see how this unveils! Colors and intensity was trippy. what a talented bunch, totally deserve to win.
Aden S. Posted 7 months ago
poor guy! ish. would suck leaving all that behind. really like the beach shot. last half wasnt as effective i thought
Sanne L. Posted 7 months ago
Good job guys! This deserves to win :)
Michael W. Posted 7 months ago
I really like the visual effects and cinematography. The mood is really cool but I thought the running sequence in the hall was disturbing. Fast cuts!
Melanie T. Posted 7 months ago
Love the concept and commitment. Great job showing transitions without any dialogue. It's amazing how much emotion comes through.
Bernie H. Posted 7 months ago
really love the shots, the image and the cuts but leaves me confused. not sure what is going on but cinematography is dope.
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks Bernie, we meant to leave you just a little bit confused, but not too much. We appreciate your feedback!
Sean C. Posted 7 months ago
Really good job guys. I enjoyed what you have done with this and look forward to seeing you in the top 40!
John K. Posted 7 months ago
I also think you missed the mark in this mission. It was well put together but the assignment was to do a scene
Ellen F. Posted 7 months ago
Not sure where it's going.
Ryan B. Posted 7 months ago
guillermo quiroz? he was my favorite mendoza line hitting blue jay! I mean not even good for a catcher! and thats saying a lot these days!
Donal O. Posted 7 months ago
I wish this told us more of the story. It feels way too much like the trailer and I don't know any more of the story than I started with.
The cinematography and pacing is great.
Jexx M. Posted 7 months ago
I thought this was interesting and look forward to your next mission video. I thought the shots were pretty cool.
Natalia N. Posted 7 months ago
loved the way you shot this. The change in colours looked great and added a nice touch
Karen H. Posted 7 months ago
Really interesting shots and colours... the technical terms ellude me. I haven't seen the trailer, but feel like I have a bit of grasp of the story from this - good job!
Jeff C. Posted 7 months ago
have to say again i love what you guys are doing photography wise -some great stuff here. Love the use of saturation and colors in general!
Afzal H. Posted 7 months ago
Didn't really feel like this was new, very similar to the trailer. I guess I was expecting more. Hope to see more in the upcoming missions.
Araxi K. Posted 7 months ago
Always an aesthetic poetry... beautiful shots, first I wanted the music to be more upbeat and intense but after rewatching I think I understand where you're coming from. Such an artsy way to portray an explosion!
Michelle G. Posted 7 months ago
you're definitely a talented bunch but I just felt like this was too close to the trailer. I would have preferred you hashing out just one scene in the movie.
mirdy p. Posted 7 months ago
I enjoyed the costumes and the way that it was shot. The camara work was also nicley shot. The red and yellow used I think goes along with the clip.
sonia r. Posted 7 months ago
I watched the trailer and I think is an interesting story. Love the way you edited the speechless scene. Not too crazy about the music.
Laureen B. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting use of colour. I don't get the frantic feeling of running for your life. I think the music doesn't convey the urgency I expected to feel
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
There are some sequences here where you've used ordinary spaces in extraordinary ways to tell the story. It reminds me of Michel Gondry - I really like this . I hope you keep it, regardless of the budget you get.
Jon K. Posted 6 months ago
Lindsey, thank you so much for such nice words. I am indeed a big fan of Gondry and we kept him in mind when trying to tell compelling stories under a budget! We also like the saturated colours of Almodovar. We're rooting for the wildcard for the top 15 as we're currently out of the top 40 but as we said on our facebook page, we look forward to telling you the story regardless of the budget as well. Thank you again!
Tara D. Posted 7 months ago
Enjoyed the soundtracks. The pace at the beginning had me gripped and intrigued, although waned toward the end.
Marcel J. Posted 7 months ago
That was cool. Your film was cool. You know how to use sound in creative ways! Good work guys. Can't wait to see more.
Jason K. Posted 7 months ago
You have a visual aesthetic that's fresh!
Cathy S. Posted 7 months ago
Somehow I have missed your film in my previous attempt to find watch list worthy films. I think even without dialogue this has an interesting premise.
Nicole H. Posted 7 months ago
I was scared at first but was unsure about what was happening. The part with the van looked kinda fake, but I loved the hotel scene and water over the camera lense.
