Did not expect this, but its original, yet a classic way of telling a story.
Avery L. Posted 6 months ago
I agree! If you're writing all the things that are being conveyed through your sequence, people might as well start using subtitles instead of spoken dialogues and work with those instead.
Lee C. Posted 6 months ago
Wow people are really annoyed with us for using the classical title card approach. It was just a mission and we found a unique way to showcase our project. Cinecoup wanted brave and unique and we nailed it... not that everyone agrees.
Alexa H. Posted 6 months ago
I like the way you are bringing your story to us in a new way, but I don't see anything new or incredibly exciting in the story. How do you plan to turn this into something completely unexpected?
Lee C. Posted 6 months ago
It's in the screenplay... with a book version available for you to read too. Can't spoil a thriller by giving you EVERYTHING! lol
Ava G. Posted 6 months ago
I think your art was very well done, and the music is good too. Even so, doesn't writing kind of count as a kind of speech?
Lee C. Posted 6 months ago
Writing is not speech... Speech is sound. It's like the old days of silent movies that showed title cards.
FilmFan F. Posted 6 months ago
The storyboard artist is very talented. But once again I don't see anything except concept and ideas. Kind of like a car salesman selling me a car that isnt there.. and.just using brochures.
Lee C. Posted 6 months ago
The script IS the car... They don't make movies BEFORE they have budgets. They have scripts and storyboards. The expectations here are way too much at times. Some people went and shot already... That is their method... our way is more traditional. Major script development is key! Soooooooooo happy we are at the stage where scripts are being considered... Cuz that's what is really important. Thanks for the kind words on the storyboards. Jose is very talented.
Melanie O. Posted 6 months ago
Nice try here but I think real scenes would have been better as you only had to reuse what you already had with the boards, I feel a new creation would be better
Lee C. Posted 6 months ago
Not shooting scenes until we have a budget. The competition is about $1m in production funding... We need a budget to go shoot! Most films use storyboards to show scenes before they go to camera. Unlike some other teams... we haven't shot the movie yet. :)
Joslyn P. Posted 7 months ago
very cool storyboards! suspensful
Lee C. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks Joslyn! :)
Lee C. Posted 6 months ago
Woo Hoo Someone that appreciates storyboards. Not sure why there are sooooo many other people on here that expect we should shoot the movie before we win the million dollars! Thanks for your support :)
Joslyn P. Posted 6 months ago
It's always good to be unique, and the quality is decent :)
Lena D. Posted 7 months ago
I didn't expect to see something like this and really appreciated it. Although, I wanted to see a full scene.
Candice M. Posted 7 months ago
I am wondering why you use pictures as most of the others in this contest went out of their daily lives and worked day and night to get one mission done
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Because I am flat out working on a movie in Australia at the moment. I am very busy! We stand by using pictures because we don't have production funds yet. Storyboards are used to in the film industry all the time! :) We are the only brave team to go down this route...
Matt D. Posted 7 months ago
What? this makes little sense. Swords, psychotic robbers? where's the body of the robber that died? I understand its a storyboard layout and I am sure it makes sense it I was to watch it numerous times. But being clear and simple and engaging is very difficult. I wasn't into it as a result.
Laura Lee J. Posted 7 months ago
Read the book!
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Like a good trailer, we are not gonna give the WHOLE story away...
Jenna R. Posted 7 months ago
There isn't anything that says they can't do this... Don't steal dirty money if you do't want to be hunted down!!
farhan k. Posted 7 months ago
Yeah, I think the whole point was to not make use of words at all, and in a way you are using words by writing them in your sequence. Even so, great work! Hope you make the cut.

Interesting use of storyboard sketches to convey your messages. Just hope you're not giving too much of your story away too early! Good luck.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
We have caused chaos once again. We seem to be good at doing that. Speechless yet we used on screen text. Nothing in the rules said we couldn't. We match the title cards of the old silent movie era. I think this makes us unique... CineCoup wants brave! That's what we are doing. We show storyboards because unlike some films here... We need the $1million to actually shoot the movie. Some projects appear to have already been entirely shot. Why do they need production funding?
Chelsea B. Posted 7 months ago

Not sure why people don't like this? It's very original and I love the use of the storyboards. Can't wait to see your next mission. They said #BeBrave. You did just that! Kudos to you for having a different approach.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Sandra! :)
Ian R. Posted 7 months ago
Sorry guys, for a mission with the title "speechless" I think it is such a cop out to just write out whats going on.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
We invested time and our own money working with a professional artist to draft up really good boards. We stand by using them as it makes no sense to film scenes before you have funding. Nothing against other teams... that's just our way. In the film industry, storyboards are used to showcase films BEFORE they are shot.
As for using text... there was nothing in the mission rules saying teams couldn't use on-screen text. Maybe we should be applauded for being smart and brave - as CineCoup suggests! :)
Ian R. Posted 6 months ago
I had no problems with the storyboards. Didn't like the text. That is all.
Rachel W. Posted 7 months ago
I'm not sure if I hate or love the idea of using storyboards - I would like to see the actors, but it is nice finding out more of the story.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Rachel! I can't wait to have actors too, but that only comes when we have a budget and head into principal photography. Not interested in creating scenes with temporary actors before we have a budget. That's why we presented the storyboards.
Rachel W. Posted 7 months ago
That makes a lot of sense then :) Good luck!
Donald Y. Posted 7 months ago
I'd rather have seen actors performing. But I read the book and know the story. And it seems to me that the infatuation with the teacher is a real grabber, and would have suited this mission much better than storyboards. I wonder if too much of the story has been told - even though I know there is much more to tell.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for reading the book! As you said: there is much more to tell! :)
Katherine H. Posted 7 months ago
We'll see how you do next week. Good luck!
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
The next Mission is already uploaded and ready for Monday. Lots of fun with me under a canoe! Not easy doing Missions here in Australia on my iPhone. Schedule is pretty busy working on another film at the moment. Thanks for watching!
John K. Posted 7 months ago
I really like this movie idea but it seems like you took a bit of a shortcut in this mission and it might hurt your chances in the end.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Actually I think we are the bravest of the 60 projects on this one. Traditionally films aren't made BEFORE they are funded. They are storyboarded! We are the only ones who did it this way... CineCoup wants brave and bold and we are stirring things up. Saying that, I appreciate your comments. All the best!
Luna j. Posted 7 months ago
it looks great ! i really hope you win this contest ! an i really love the storyboard i wish i could draw like that

Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Woo Hoo! Thanks Wendi!
Eric R. Posted 7 months ago
Interesting use of Storyboards. Unique. I though this was a great approach to the mission. I liked the Music.
Melissa C. Posted 7 months ago
Loved the use of the storyboards!! #BeMoving #BeBold they say, you did just that with this twist. Instead of shooting a bunch of stuff you probably won't use you went for this creative approach instead. Way to be bold and daring. Beautiful storyboards cudos to the Artist!! Looking forward to more.
Corey T. Posted 7 months ago
I liked the use of storyboards guys. It isnt easy to prepare all the content for each weekly mission and this was a creative way to progress the story. Good job.
Sarah G. Posted 7 months ago
Yeah, I think the whole point was to not make use of words at all, and in a way you are using words by writing them in your sequence. Even so, great work! Hope you make the cut.

The rules didn't state you couldn't have words on the screen... it's still speechless. Like using title cards in the golden age of silent movies. Thanks for the kind words!

I love how our Missions ruffles feathers... We always seem to be different than everyone else... but, as the CineCoup says: #BeBrave

Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Speech is noise not text on a screen... Thanks for the kind words about the boards. Jose will be happy to hear that!
Maryla N. Posted 7 months ago
I didn't initially like this project because there weren't ever any actual scenes and nothing seemed to be shot or even attempted to but after reading your comments I have respect for you guys in a sense for not wanting to shoot anything until you have a bigger budget. And without a doubt you guys have the best story boards and seem to have a solid script.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thank you! :)
Nidhi c. Posted 7 months ago
I like the way you are bringing your story to us in a new way, but I don't see anything new or incredibly exciting in the story. How do you plan to turn this into something completely unexpected?
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for the question Nidhi!
All that is in the 100 pages of screenplay. We invested heavily in script development. There's a lot of twists and turns. Hard to get across in little video snippets. That's why we released the book version. Go check out Amazon and read reviews from all over the world. :)
François G. Posted 7 months ago

Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Oh there's lot more to the tale... :) Thanks!
Afzal H. Posted 7 months ago
This was a great approach for this mission. Unlike some of the teams who gave "excuses" for not being able to show their vision for this mission, you guys did an AMAZING job of using storyboards to show your creative vision. Once you have the million bucks, you can easily shoot them :)
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Afzal! :)
Todd G. Posted 7 months ago
Scorsese uses storyboards on every movie. The mission is to get our ideas across in unique ways. I thought by doing something different gave us a cool new way.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
That's right! We are the ONLY ones who took this unique approach... We are BRAVE! :)
Michelle G. Posted 7 months ago
That was interesting. Definitely a different approach to the speechless mission. I prefer real footage but these drawings were definitely a work of art.
Dianna D. Posted 7 months ago
I love the creative way you told your story, especially the last scenes. The combination of the music and the words flashing really conveyed the fear.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
That's how it's done. Solid script and storyboards until you have a budget to hire actors, crew and equipment. You shoot a movie when you have a budget... Of course... we are taking a lot of heat for this mission because of our approach... but we stand by it as this is the way movies are made. I am surprised no other film team here used storyboards! We are truly being bold and brave (which is what CineCoup wants).
Dianna D. Posted 7 months ago
Every trailblazer in his/her field has had to take the heat until the rest of the world catches on. But it is worth it to be radical. Your ideas are awesome and so is your script & artwork. I wish you all the very best!
Tara D. Posted 7 months ago
Innovative and creative technique utilising professional storyboards. A very different approach from other team submissions. Awesome work!
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Very different... We are the ONLY ones using storyboards. CineCoup says BE BRAVE... That's what we are doing!
Sue T. Posted 7 months ago
So different from the rest, which is a GOOD thing! Very creative, as I watched I kept thinking, "I wonder how they are going to do that scene". Makes me look forward to seeing the film!
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Sue! Great to see some people can see the merits in our unique approach!
John C. Posted 7 months ago
Can't wait to get see this film get made. As for using story boards, works for me, better than a cheap scene that would never make it into the movie. Your doing right Lee.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
We agree... We have no interest in just throwing scenes together when we don't even have actors yet. Curious as there are tons of filmmakers on here that appear to have already shot their entire films... why do they need a million dollars? I want CineCoup to read our SCREENPLAY... That's where the real magic is!
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Why is there such a demand that we film the movie BEFORE we have funds to make it? I find that kinda odd. Movies are funded by having AMAZING scripts... We can't wait to get to that stage!
Ronna W. Posted 7 months ago
While storyboards are a useful tool to show us a scene, I would have liked to see a scene that was actually shot or the storyboard for just one scene in more detail.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
I am guessing we are the only ones to use storyboards. It seems to be controversial... Guess that makes us unique! Cool!
Ronna W. Posted 7 months ago
I didn't review every single "speechless" video, so I can't confirm whether that's true, but, to clarify the main point of my comment, your video didn't show just one scene (whether through storyboards or a scene that was actually shot), which I wanted to see for this speechless video. Storyboards are a useful tool and it's good you made use of it though in the absence of having shot a scene already.
Jeff B. Posted 7 months ago
I think you sort of missed the point of this mission. You were supposed to shoot a scene, not show a string of storyboards.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
We seem to miss the point of all the missions if you read fan comments. lol... We need a budget to shoot this movie. We are not hobby filmmakers. Until we have a production budget... we have storyboards. That's just the way it goes...
Ann-Marie S. Posted 7 months ago
Not sure I get behind a film when it is only a story board. i WOULD have to see a actuall shot scene to know more
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Films aren't normally shot before they are funded. It's all based on the screenplay and the vision and track record of the director. CineCoup is about being Brave... That's us!
Kris B. Posted 7 months ago
It's hard to comment on this as a speechless scene as it is the whole movie and not just the scene. I do believe that showing a storyboard is a great way to tell a scene that isn't shot yet. and because you haven't shot the film I get it... I can play along. but I would of liked to see just a small scene... not the whole movie. or what felt to be the whole movie.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
It's not the whole movie... trust me there are many twists and turns in our screenplay. There's soooooo much more to the tale!
Lani S. Posted 7 months ago
Must. See. This. Film.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
lol Awesome Lani! Thanks for your support! :)
Michelle S. Posted 7 months ago
i love the book and i'm so happy to see the characters come alive ! it's great cant wait to see the movie !
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Michelle! There's tons of tension in the book version and I'm glad you liked the rollercoaster thrill ride!
Dana B. Posted 7 months ago
Not quite the point of the mission...
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
What did you expect?
Julia Richard M. Posted 7 months ago
Well I see the concept. Just wondering whether one can feel the grip of this movie to be. Good luck on it.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Hey thanks!
Eleanor M. Posted 7 months ago
I love seeing this. Knowing you have storyboards put together, assures me you won't be wasting the money you win. I truly feel you have a solid concept and the money would go towards a great film!
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Eleanor... Some people think we should have gone out and shot some of the movie in our spare time. We spent our time developing the screenplay, engaging fans with the book and crafting tons of storyboards. I'll go shoot the movie... when I have a budget... a million dollars works! :) Until then... I think we have plenty to show vision and a good story!
Aiden C. Posted 7 months ago
After watching a number of other projects and the work they put into actually shooting a scene I felt your mission fell flat.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
I would love to shoot a scene... but I am working on a film in Australia at the moment and have no time for that. To me the storyboards say it all... :)
Aiden C. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for the explanation. You do have a interesting project I look forward to your next mission.
Natalia N. Posted 7 months ago
I enjoyed this because it gave such a deeper look into the project. Is your movie going to be animated or have real people actors?
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Animated? Oh no... Live action. I work with actors... Until we have money to make the movie we use CG for animatics and storyboards. Thanks for the question! :)
Dallas M. Posted 7 months ago
This was a unigue approach but I wasn't a real fan. would have rather seen how it was going to be enacted.
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
A lot of filmmakers on here are having fun shooting bits for their movie for the Missions... If you can do that... 'why do you need the million dollars'? I can't shoot without a budget to hire people, talent and gear. I am not about to recreate scenes with friends on screen. I want to hire ACTORS! :)
Shannon M. Posted 7 months ago
Well what a neat idea using the story boards, is this allowed???? I liked the story and the music pairing
Lee C. Posted 7 months ago
Is it allowed? It's all I am prepared to do until I have a million dollars to make the movie. I invested in the storyboards to showcase style and vision.
