Well done West! The sound effects are really cool and add to the suspense of the scene. Plus you toughed it out filming in the snow!
Sarah A. Posted 5 months ago
I the the sound effects in this speechless challenge video. They really add to the realism and tension of the piece
Bruce N. Posted 5 months ago
John and Pete make their way to the truck, drive to their hideout in the woods, where, in proper Fargo fashion, John decides to put Pete through the wood chipper. Enter Frances Macdormand...
Kurt P. Posted 5 months ago
There were a few shots that kind of pulled me out of the movie but for the most part this was well shot and there was a reason to be "speechless" for the scene.
Steve R. Posted 5 months ago
Cool stuff guys!
Jonathan C. Posted 5 months ago
Good work, this is really well done. For the most part the cinematography was good but a few shots could've been redone - that could just be a personal thing though.
David S. Posted 5 months ago
Wow, that looks chilly. I love the snowy setting for this film. My next stop is to try and learn more about the actual case that this is based on
Ashley C. Posted 6 months ago
Good little slice of the film. Would've like to have a little more action but still enjoyed it. I like the winter western concept too. Don't see many of those.
Brenda H. Posted 6 months ago
That was exciting. Your actors and crew are really willing to go to great distances to make this film happen. Looking forward to seeing it on the big screen!
Dawn E. Posted 6 months ago
I love this chase sequence; it adds an element of suspense and danger that wasn't in the trailer. Great work on this one.
Glen H. Posted 6 months ago
I love the elements of this film. The chase scene is exciting with the music, and the old car looks pretty good. Good work.
Simon P. Posted 6 months ago
I have always been one for a good western, I like the plot of this film and also the location great work good luck
Zaul M. Posted 6 months ago
Honestly a great scene. The only thing that really needs improvement might be lighting...which requires money. Good work!
Angela S. Posted 6 months ago
The music, the cold snowy scenery, the barking dogs, and the ticking watch were very effective in creating this suspenseful scene.
Mac L. Posted 6 months ago
Awesome all around! Really love the environment you shot this in. Really great sound, too which I know can be difficult in crunchy wilderness exteriors.
jane D. Posted 6 months ago
love the snow
Loretta W. Posted 6 months ago
Suspense building good. Love the snow and big sky effect.
Zhong Z. Posted 6 months ago
very nice scene..know a little of the real story so know where this is going..very interested in seeing how you play it out
Cameron W. Posted 6 months ago
great work on the sound. There's only two of them, so they've been separated from the third guy? The law already caught up with him.
William F. Posted 6 months ago
nice taut scene, very well done. These woods seem a little sparse for providing cover; think they'll be buying it very soon!
James W. Posted 7 months ago
They go to the truck, it's out of gas but the bearded guy remembers a trick. He pees in the gas tank to dilute the fuel and it starts up.
Lindsay A. Posted 7 months ago
Suspenseful! And I love the ticking watch (and again - great music!) - this is such a great story - I would love to see it as a full-length movie.
marie d. Posted 7 months ago
the importance of their silence is very clear in this scene, and you certainly do feel the anxiety...and the cold
Monika T. Posted 7 months ago
That picture makes me cold to look at!!! I'm so glad it's starting to get warm here! Really liked your video!
Trish M. Posted 7 months ago
Good sound effects & music, but throughout the clip I questioned the intensity of the situation. I did not feel the suspense of the moment...Wanted criminals being hunted down by dogs & the law, risking capture at any given moment!
tess o. Posted 7 months ago
fine stuff--love the glimpses of that big blue prairie sky too--i do believe his watch has been left behind--hmmmmm
Enzo V. Posted 7 months ago
Good job on building some silence suspense. Crunching snow as another poster mentioned, was captured well!
luke k. Posted 7 months ago
You can tel that you are takiking each if the missions seriously and are doing them well.Great watch
William B. Posted 7 months ago
That guy must have hurt himself - will the injury hinder his escape later? I'm glad there was no talking - helped with the suspense.
Iris B. Posted 7 months ago
They're going to try to make a getaway! I like the pocket watch, hope it didn't really break... Waiting to see more.
Cari J. Posted 7 months ago
Great scene! I definitely felt the intensity! You really delivered on this mission. It's obvious that you took the constructive criticism from your trailer and worked to enhance the end product here. Well done, team West! Looking forward to see what you have coming up next!
olive f. Posted 7 months ago
great to see a scene where the characters being speechless has a definite purpose. always love the sound of crunching snow. nice
Marina N. Posted 7 months ago
Excellent scene! You guys took the mission and were able to come up with something completely believable and something that looks like it was taken straight out of a finished film!
Nadia V. Posted 7 months ago
Not sure what is happening here as there seems to be no sequence to it at all but i think you are really trying to show something just not sure what
Richard B. Posted 7 months ago
Loved the music, sound was great, editing was great. Great setting. However, I felt that there was a lack of an artistic impression.
Nancy R. Posted 7 months ago
Liked the change in camera focus. Also liked the fact that the music was used sporadically as more of an enhancement
Romy J. Posted 7 months ago
This looks pretty nice, I'm still thinking these guys look a little young to be outlaws? I don't know maybe I misunderstood...
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
In fact, these actors are a little old! In real life, these boys were in their early 20's. No grizzled Eastwood's here...
Kirsty R. Posted 7 months ago
Looks very cold! Good job boys. Nice framing and the costumes are still looking great. Im shivering though.
Jeevin J. Posted 7 months ago
Nice work. Some great compositions and I always love the way boots sound on crunching snow, rocks and twigs and stuff
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Jeevin. We made an effort to improve our sound for this mission.
Jenny C. Posted 7 months ago
I liked that this Speechless mission wasn't just action under a soundtrack. It really gave the characters silence a "voice" and a purpose. Well done!
George P. Posted 7 months ago
well done, kept it simple with natural lighting, looks like some effort was put in to this challange
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, George!
Andie Q. Posted 7 months ago
I like that this speechless used the mission as part of the motivation for the story. Great look with the snow.
Marge T. Posted 7 months ago
The acting is fantastic - the expressions said everything. The fear was palpable and the ticking sound in the score really added to that feeling.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
We're glad you noticed the score, Marge. Kudos to Jingle Punks for offering a great music library!
Bryan L. Posted 7 months ago
An amazing video. It's great to see so much effort and passion from such an amazingly talented group of artists
Jason L. Posted 7 months ago
Yeah, echoing the comment below this one - great creative solution to the challenge to have the characters not just choose to not speak but NEED to not speak. Great storytelling! Votes coming your way...
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Jason!
Carol B. Posted 7 months ago
bonus that no dialogue was not just a prescribed mission component but a necessary element to telling this story
Semantha M. Posted 7 months ago
good use of sound and body language
Andre v. Posted 7 months ago
Great use of sound fx and some good action! The sound of the snow crunching and watch really added to it. (Life of a Locksmith)
Ashley H. Posted 7 months ago
I love the resignation in their faces at the end. Good sell.
Aiden C. Posted 7 months ago
Well done. The clock ticking added a nice layer to the suspense.
Leigh N. Posted 7 months ago
Well done West! The sound effects are really cool and add to the suspense of the scene. Plus you toughed it out filming in the snow!
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Leigh. We're happy that the "actual" story takes place in the fall...
Matthew L. Posted 7 months ago
Great work #West. The sounds of the trees and footsteps really set the mood for the sequence. I could feel the suspense.
Jana S. Posted 7 months ago
West is the best the best in the west if you can't here me scream a little louder!!!! West west west!
Derek H. Posted 7 months ago
We've been debating adding a cheerleading squad to our video team. You just sealed the deal Jana. We'll hope to see you at auditions.
Lee H. Posted 7 months ago
Great job!
Allen M. Posted 7 months ago
Gripping. Nice choice of sequence. Tells a lot of story and reveals a lot of relationship. Very curious to see this film
Sue M. Posted 7 months ago
Well done! It got my attention right away and the lack of dialogue was very effective. The wardrobe choice was interesting.
Rachel W. Posted 7 months ago
I really enjoyed this - just like every other missions I've seen from you guys! The gunshot made me jump! Loved what you did with the challenge of no dialogue.
Donald Y. Posted 7 months ago
You selected a good clip for this mission. I felt cold just watching it. Very nice cinematography.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Don. And thanks to Joel Kesler, our awesome (and patient) cinematographer!
Aniko K. Posted 7 months ago
Way to go! Excellent use of no dialogue to advance a scene in a very memorable and significant way! Great job you guys!
Tony S. Posted 7 months ago
That must've been some chilly filming! Good suspense in a very natural feel sequence - the lack of dialogue made so much sense for this.
Mikel T. Posted 7 months ago
haha i thought he was going to say something! nice shhhh. And i liked the use of the ticking clock to build suspense
Samantha B. Posted 7 months ago
For whatever reason I feel like the world never has enough good westerns. So I hope you guys go far because I'd like to see more.
Jana S. Posted 7 months ago
Yes! Agreed!
Tim R. Posted 7 months ago
Nice job! The acting was really good right at the beginning, but I felt like it got a bit worse throughout. Great camerawork though! Good luck
Colin Y. Posted 7 months ago
Awesome beating just before the gunshot, I was legitimately a bit shocked by it! Liked that there was a reason to be silent.
Krista B. Posted 7 months ago
I would have liked to see more of a cliffhanger ending to the clip, but it was a well done job overall
Dana B. Posted 7 months ago
This looks like a scene plucked straight out of your movie! Very well put together. This scene didn't need any dialogue and you guys were able to capture it perfectly!
Redmond O. Posted 7 months ago
It's a post-Sergio "western", so you gotta have long sections without dialogue. I get a good "revisionist" vibe from this -- there's no Eastwoody heroism, but there's a feel the protagonists have been together enough that they don't need to talk. They carry it off quite well for most of the clip. Challenge aside, however, the last sequence where they find the truck might be stronger with a couple of words, possibly an illusion to an inside joke between them.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Redmond. Great insights on the "revisionist vibe."
Bella M. Posted 7 months ago
this is going to be so amazing ! I'd love to see it in full swing :) you got a strong team to work with !
Kim Y. Posted 7 months ago
I love that jacket :) Very good work on using costume to reflect the time period...Have to admit I thought the guy at the beginning was James Franco lol,
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
We'll try our best to get James for the next mission. In the meantime our friend Matt will have to do.
Kevin N. Posted 7 months ago
I've been a fan the whole time and my fondness for your film grows each week. Keep it up guys. Something is bound to happen.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks for the encouragement, Kevin.
Teague P. Posted 7 months ago
Great job on the scene. The sometimes silence is better than dialogue. Really did a good job making it feel like the 1930s
Todd M. Posted 7 months ago
GREAT WORK GUYS.... The tension created from nothing (environment) gives me great hopw for what is possible... I love the work you have done!
Danny L. Posted 7 months ago
Where is the third guy was the watch of any great signifigance and the get away was way to easy if people and dogs are tracking you you had better be creative
Brock S. Posted 7 months ago
Some very cool things going on here, the scenery is nice and was obviously a challenge. The scene asks more questions than it gives answers; in that regards mission accomplished. This is the first mission of yours that I've noticed and that is a good sign!
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Brock. We're happy to be on your radar!
Rob N. Posted 7 months ago
This scene made me wonder what had happened to the third bank robber. I wondered what the significance of the pocket watch was, if any.
Wendi N. Posted 7 months ago
Nice job. Looks like and interesting movie. Great scene makes you want to see what happens next. Good Luck
Shelley T. Posted 7 months ago
This was a very cool scene guys. I loved the angle of the camera in the opening shot. The overall colour is great.
Trevor S. Posted 7 months ago
Really liked this. The sound was great and it provided a great look into where these guys end up: they go from partying and drinking to running through a bush. I want to see what happens in between.
Derek H. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Trevor! We hope that you get that chance!
Ingrid S. Posted 7 months ago
They must have been freezing! It looks good. Well shot. Suspense is well created. I like the ticking sound, not sure about the music. Well done!
Ryan B. Posted 7 months ago
The eyebrow raise at the end: awesome
Siobhan W. Posted 7 months ago
Neat setting. Liked the concept, but for me, didn't have enough tension, and their getaway seemed a little too easy.
Matty G. Posted 7 months ago
Very cool guys. This is rad to me. Good stuff.
Natalia N. Posted 7 months ago
I liked the ticking of the pocket watch in the beginning and how it continued throughout the soundtrack
Derek H. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks Natalia!
Shane L. Posted 7 months ago
Cool! The "speechless" aspect of this was really nicely motivated...really feels like part of the movie and not just an exercise.
Ramona B. Posted 7 months ago
Super-fun! Some good tension and sound editing. Made me curious to learn about these guys and their friendship. Nice mission!
Tim T. Posted 7 months ago
Nice! I liked the beat before the gun shot went off and the subsequent shots of him scrambling away. The music wasn't overpowering and did a good job of supporting the scene. Nice work! Hope that old truck starts in that weather.
Derek H. Posted 7 months ago
We've learned through filming that it sometimes can be a challenge! Our record so far: Starting a 1928 Ford at -30. Barely made it.
Ada K. Posted 7 months ago
well shot , good use of light and surroundings.
Kismet T. Posted 7 months ago
I liked your use of light and perspective. I also thought your audio choices helped to build suspense.
Danielle M. Posted 7 months ago
Nice shot composition. I like your creative use of sound. These are some good action moments. I’m very curious to know who chasing after them! Good work.
Lowell D. Posted 7 months ago
Well shot, nicely paced - a nice little scene. I love the watch motif. - Team Wolfcop
Catherine M. Posted 7 months ago
I think the setting is terrific for this scene and the use of eye gestures to express feelings is done well.
Derick M. Posted 7 months ago
nicely done, was quite engaging to watch. my only note would be on the cloth foley and the vocal adr. both were a little too loud and felt overpowering.
Laureen B. Posted 7 months ago
I like how there was a reason for the characters to be speechless, very good location for the scene as well.
Lynne M. Posted 7 months ago
I enjoyed this, the ticking clock added to the suspense, a chase in the snow makes it more exciting.
Mark R. Posted 7 months ago
I enjoyed the overall feel of this scene and the music accompanied by the ticking added a time element of suspense.
Paul H. Posted 7 months ago
looks great! really suspenseful, i like the ticking and background music. it made i even better and more suspenseful
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Paul. We tired to extend the 'ticking clock' into the musical score as well.
Sharon L. Posted 7 months ago
nicely done, I like the ticking of the time piece, i think it adds to the tension, I look forward to seeing more
Lindsey M. Posted 7 months ago
This felt really natural for no dialogue, great suspense here. AND it's clear you guys actually worked on this recently because of the snow. Nice to see what you've accomplished in a short amount of time, not re-packaging something already produced.
Anne A. Posted 7 months ago
This was definitely a great scene to have so the actors don't need to talk! Well done! Sound editing was perfect.
Chado M. Posted 7 months ago
Although this doesn't give a lot of sense into what the entirety of the film will be, the scene by itself is very intriguing. It felt like a great chase was about to ensue!
Sarah D. Posted 7 months ago
I really enjoyed this scene! This was an awesome way to have a scene with no dialogue. The background music was great for creating a sense of urgency. I look forward to seeing more.
David F. Posted 7 months ago
Like what you've done here. A scene full of suspense yet without any words. Looking forward to your next posts!
John K. Posted 7 months ago
Best thing you've done so far in the competition. Nicely directed. I think you're probably a little behind in the competition but keep it up.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, John. We're definitely rocking the underdog status.
Annelise L. Posted 7 months ago
Clever excuse to make sure the actors can't speak. Love to see some key bit of action happen with the watch that propels them into a more noisy, frenetic action sequence.
Emily B. Posted 7 months ago
Looks really great!! All the suspense and having a chase makes a perfect speechless scene! Can't to see the whole film!
Gregory H. Posted 7 months ago
Really enjoyed this. Sound editing and background effects are spot on. Facial expressions perfectly convey what would have been dialogue. Great job!
Marc D. Posted 7 months ago
Is it bad that I want to see John caught and Pete get away? I just love Pete. Great work again guys!
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Pete loves that you're rooting for him.
Chris F. Posted 7 months ago
I'm starting to think John is schizo, based on the shots of him alone while running away and the way the other guy appears from nowhere. They may be hunting for 1 man not 3. I really want to see the feature!!!!
Mike D. Posted 7 months ago
I don't know how you guys are continuing to produce such quality work from three different cities, but keep it up. Looks great.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Mike. We lucked out with the Easter weekend. Great timing on Cinecoup's part!
Skye B. Posted 7 months ago
Looking sweet!
Ilana D. Posted 7 months ago
I liked the use of watch, to show the sense of urgency. I just wish they didn't get away so easily. It would have been nice to see them struggle to escape a bit more. But, seeing as this is only a 90 second clip, I'm sure that the struggle to escape will come through in longer scenes and throughout the film. Great work guys.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
You're right about the suspense, Ilana. We filmed a longer chase scene but our ambitions got the better of us and we had to truncate it to hit the 90 second mark. Great comments!
Amanda B. Posted 7 months ago
I didn't really find this interesting. I haven't seen the other videos about this movie. I'm sure there is suspense in it, though.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
You're right about the suspense, Amanda. I encourage you to check out a few of our other videos to learn more about West. Thanks!
Karen D. Posted 7 months ago
It was nice to a scene from later in the story line. It makes me wonder how they got this place in the story and where the other guy has gone.
Afzal H. Posted 7 months ago
I think the inciting incident would have been more powerful if the bark of the dog had woken the protagonist up because the watch didn't really added any importance to the scene. Also, it wasn't satisfying because nothing really happened at the end or that they found a way to escape very easily. The gunshot was great as it created a tension but then it could have been used to accelerate the action.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Good comments, Afzal. The watch plays a larger part in the story, so it will have more significance in the context of the entire film.
Paul D. Posted 7 months ago
Very well done once again! Where do you keep getting all of these old cars? They really help to set the time period. Great job!
Paige A. Posted 7 months ago
Wow! This really kept me on the edge of my seat. Great sequencing and cool shots. I found this very entertaining! Well done guys.
Leslie H. Posted 7 months ago
Excellent job again! I enjoy the pocket watch and the feeling that time is running out for these guys. And what happened to the third guy? Leaves you wanting to see more.
Brad K. Posted 7 months ago
was that the same watch from Cast away...lol. well done but still not sure if its coming together. really like the short action great shots.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Brad. We're checking to see if Tom Hanks will endorse the watch. And throw a few dollars our way.
Kyle L. Posted 7 months ago
Love outdoor scenes! Not sure how these guys are keeping dry and warm in all that powder. waiting to see what comes next
Carly T. Posted 7 months ago
I really enjoyed the beginning, but didn't like the ending as much. did they get away that quickly? still though the speechless aspect was well done.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Carly. I think you're right - a little more time for the chase would go a long way.
Danny T. Posted 7 months ago
Sorry to say, not much to keep you entertained without any dialogue. I like the look of the film and the costumes look great though.
Stephen S. Posted 7 months ago
Ah, filming in the winter. Not much fun, but you guys were able to catch a nice visual space for the scene.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Stephen. We're happy that the 'real' story takes place in the fall. Wet socks get old fast.
Rick H. Posted 7 months ago
I like the outdoor space but not feeling the chase, appears to be lost in translation. It does not appear that the guy fleeing or his "friend" are even concerned here
Nole N. Posted 7 months ago
Good stuff hope you don't lose the watch!!! It's suspenseful in its own right music good, actors look somewhat panicked
Amy Z. Posted 7 months ago
Incredible. What a great piece of work. A fantastic story was told in under 2 minutes. Your work is something to be proud of. Thank you again so much for sharing!
Emersen Z. Posted 7 months ago
Great Sequence!
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Emersen. We thought about contacting you to build a killer dog, but figured you were busy with Wolf Cop ;-)
Colin T. Posted 7 months ago
I personally liked everything about this until the very end. Did they get away that quickly? It seemed like whoever was chasing them was right there. but not a major gripe with me, I still think I got the point you were trying to make. nice job
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Colin. Great comments.
Michelle H. Posted 7 months ago
Igood job! I liked the imagery of the broken watch. Maybe simbolizing that they are running out of time? I also agree that filming in —5 is much better then —40 :)
Derek H. Posted 7 months ago
We're glad that you picked up on the imagery of the watch. It was a subtle addition, but we thought that it was important.
Brenda T. Posted 7 months ago
Excellent use of sound. Realistic sounds created by movement on snow and through brush. Understated music enhanced the tension.
Helen M. Posted 7 months ago
I actually got a little lost on this one and went back to check the trailer for it's genre, I was surprised to see that it was crime/thriller as I couldn't help but pick up on what I thought was subtle humour based on the facial expressions. I did not feel suspense or worry for them possibly getting caught as they seemed to have all the time in the world after the gun shots, It made me wonder if the dog hadn't got shot! I mean this in the nicest way :)
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Helen. West: The Sequel to 'Old Yeller.'
Nellemarie H. Posted 7 months ago
Good idea of circumstances in which no words can be used. The scene was clear, I think that the facial expressions were a little more exaggerated than they needed to be.
Michelle G. Posted 7 months ago
You've definitely got a talented group of people here from actors to crew. An interesting choice to use 2 people in a scene that can't talk to each other.
Krystle B. Posted 7 months ago
I think we see some hesitation with the bearded character, because he looks exhausted at the end. The gun shot would make a person react with running away, but maybe the other guy is telling him that they need to slow down.
Brenda K. Posted 7 months ago
Nice work!! The different camera angles were a great effect. Also thought the music was appropriate for the scene - it didn't drown out the sounds of the snow crunching or characters groaning. Alot can happen in 90 seconds!
Joanne M. Posted 7 months ago
I did not get a real sense of urgency which you think would have been what was happening with being closed in on.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Joanne. I think we could expand this into a longer scene to better build the tension and urgency.
Heather T. Posted 7 months ago
I thought it was great. I love the music and the expressions in the characters eyes. Well done!!!
Jill A. Posted 7 months ago
Good work guys! I like the effect the snow and leafless trees had on the scene. Made for some good sound effects as you made your escape. Did you make it to the truck?
Katie T. Posted 7 months ago
I felt like the one guy was on the run but the other was sort of hovering over him like an apparition. Odd but nice setting. Felt like it needed some dialogue. A little to filled with expressions begging to be verbalized. Like the overall feel of this project though. Keep us the good work.
Shannon M. Posted 7 months ago
Could have used more music, the acting really didn't seem real, I don't think they convey any fear or suspense
Maureen M. Posted 7 months ago
That was good! I liked the facial expressions, they told a lot - it just shows that often less is better. Nice!
Brenda M. Posted 7 months ago
Sorry guys I wasn't a big fan of the acting and all the gestures to one another. It just seemed a bit phony to me. No real panic in the eyes or fear of being caught.
Matthew L. Posted 7 months ago
Very nice! I can feel suspense in the scene. Another fine mission guys. Keep it up.
Sam L. Posted 7 months ago
I really liked the little bit of music you had. I would have liked more music and sound effects because it felt a little empty. But still - good scene!
Joseph T. Posted 7 months ago
Huge fan of Westerns and I really like what you're doing here! Silent scene? Western genre? This was YOUR mission. Well played, Part of Slay to Rest.
Eric T. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks, Joseph. Glad you're picking up on the Western vibe in the Gangster Era.
