Since this was well-composed and creatively lit, I'm assuming that what people mean when they say it was poorly shot is that the camera doesn't move or cut. This is not laziness, ineptitude or a lack of imagination- it's a deliberate technique to create immersion in a scene as well as space for reflection. For example, the great film 'Hunger' from a few years ago has one static shot that lasts over 16 minutes.

Really like the looks of this film! Looking forward to seeing more. Wishing you and your team the best of luck!

This looks pretty cool and intriguing but wasn't great in terms of shots. But great job nonetheless! Looks great.
Michael V. Posted 5 months ago
I feel like this could've been shot a little better, but the set looked great and the content was intriguing.
David R. Posted 5 months ago
I wasnt too intrigued by this i really think you could have done a better job. Decent set design though
Rob H. Posted 5 months ago
Lots of questions raised, my curiosity is piqued.
Marly V. Posted 5 months ago
Great set deck.
Christopher K. Posted 6 months ago
It would have been interesting to see more camera angles, but at the same time just the still shot gave some great atmosphere.
Dawn E. Posted 6 months ago
Great use of lighting and the costumes are well done. It felt a little dull though, perhaps some different angles would add something to it.
Crystal V. Posted 6 months ago
Your setting and wardrobe/props are great for your period piece! Also great that you fit this scene with the mission, its a natual scene that requires more action and needs no talking. Great!
Callen D. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks for the kind words!

Some alternate shots, or something may have made this scene a little more interesting.
jane D. Posted 6 months ago
best of luck

Good lighting sets the mood and era past. I'have liked to see more camera movement. This is a bit slow.

Keep going team T.T.E.O.T.D... Love the unflinching lens. This I think gives a great insight to how it may have looked back then.
Callen D. Posted 6 months ago
Thanks! Unfortunately 1 person's 'unflinching lens' is 5 peoples' 'boring!' in these parts ;)
R2 D. Posted 6 months ago
Ha ha, ain't it the truth. Still, your project is a good one but the move to features is always a little bumpy. You guys look like a crew that could roll for a while.... go Sask film go!!!
p.s. love the up to date info on your FB side bar, always worth a visit.

Western are usually my favorites but this scene was a little slow moving for me - a little bit like watching paint dry
Joslyn P. Posted 7 months ago
Great looking scene!

Fantastic scene. Really like the look of this scene. Enjoyed how you just let the scene play out in one long take.
James W. Posted 7 months ago
The prisoner spins around, knocking the wine into the two candles. The scene goes dark as a struggle ensues.
Nancy G. Posted 7 months ago
Nice use of subdued lighting. The situation wants me to find out more about the characters, how they got there, where are they going, etc. The audio could have been sweetened a bit rather than just using the on-set sound only.
mandy b. Posted 7 months ago
Food for thought. Nice subdued lighting. Clearly a historical tale. The mounty has already had his last meal, so is not eating. They cover his head because he is not talking either. It's annoying when guests don't want to talk.
Hugh P. Posted 7 months ago
lots of shuffling around but not much else. A one take yes but , not a very ambitious one. better luck next time

Awkward dinner.
Allen Y. Posted 7 months ago
Not bad at all. Not the best quality cinematography but the story held up well enough. Not perfect but it holds potential.
Marcelle A. Posted 7 months ago
This did not help clarify the movie or the characters. I don't think the single take helped tell the story
andrew m. Posted 7 months ago
remember Dinner with Andre?
Wilma S. Posted 7 months ago
i don't think i will like this movie . it looks very amateurish and i have seen much better scenes.

There's something almost tender about the way the captor ruffles the prisoner's hair. I also like how the prisoner is clearly under the influence of starvation or exhaustion, that heavy breathing, that staring.
Donal O. Posted 7 months ago
I hate that I'm down to "yup" and "nopes" at this point but....nope. Sorry guys. I don't get it.
Michelle G. Posted 7 months ago
I don't get it either. I found the scene too dim to really see facial expressions which may have actually made this worthwhile.
Frank D. Posted 7 months ago
I don't know where you guys were going with this. Is his torture watching the other other two eat a meal? Whys he even there?
Jonathan R. Posted 7 months ago
what the sweet shit is going on here?!? Set and costume design looks legit but I'm going to need a lot more to get invested in this project.
Lauren M. Posted 7 months ago
I liked the idea of it. The single shot was cool. But it didn't build to anything. You built the suspense, just needed to sell it in the end.
John K. Posted 7 months ago
usually I'm a fan of long takes and single shots but I would have liked to see a bit more film making technique.from the team. You need to convince us that you have the chops to make this go.
Krista B. Posted 7 months ago
I just don't get at all what this movie as about, your other videos don't tell nearly enough. I just don't get it and am left uninterested to find out more.
Redmond O. Posted 7 months ago
The "manly" genres have a much easier time of the no-talking genre, I believe.
I love how the mountie is constantly about to ask a question or say something, but changes his mind when he looks at the captor on screen left. This is possibly the best-acted challenge I've seen so far.
Violette P. Posted 7 months ago
I found the beginning noises prior to the action a little long. The scene was well portrayed, but I think it would need some words to be more effective: it is hard to believe that the prisoner would say nothing through out this.
Tyler M. Posted 7 months ago
I like these kinds of shots, you could add a sense of apprehension to the scene to make it pop more, maybe hearing a noise outside or something. please follow our project and keep an underdog in the race. Transmission
Rebecca B. Posted 7 months ago
I really enjoy when movies let us stay in one shot for a while. Really lets the actors shine. I thought maybe it took a bit too long to get into to it though.
Lisa M. Posted 7 months ago
The set design is really good for the genre of this project. It seems that the scene for this mission was shot previously and then a clip used for the mission. It may have needed the few lines of dialogue to really sell the character motivation.
Alan N. Posted 7 months ago
the sounds of the footsteps and chair moving were distracting - too loud. the best part was putting the white sac over the prisoner's head. hope there is more comedy to come
Rachel L. Posted 7 months ago
Sound wasn't very good.. static camera made the shot pretty boring. Although it does peak my interest as to why he is tied up.
Callen D. Posted 7 months ago
You're used to the quick edits of Hollywood, designed to distract you from thinking about what you're watching. It's nice when questions lead to curiosity and not dismissal.

"pique my interest"
John G. Posted 7 months ago
This dragged on and I didnt really explain what was happening. Why even sit him down at the table with them?
Callen D. Posted 7 months ago
Torture is best enjoyed with a full stomach.
Chris L. Posted 7 months ago
I think sound is really important when making films/movies. That fell short for me on this one though, sorry.
Jessica L. Posted 7 months ago
I'm not sure I liked that there was only one angle on the camera. Also, there should be some background music.
Callen D. Posted 7 months ago
He broke their record player, that's why they're mad at him.
Jordan P. Posted 7 months ago
After watching some really good missions I found I was a bit disappointed with this one.. I thought it was going to be better
Callen D. Posted 7 months ago
What made you think it was going to be better?
Paige A. Posted 7 months ago
This was a tough mission. I feel this doesn't really compare to a lot of the other speechless missions I have watched.
Callen D. Posted 7 months ago
Thanks!
